Congrats to SxF for 1 million sales of Volume 1. Incredible achievement. If it weren't for KNY's ridiculous numbers everywhere, people would be paying this achievement a lot more attention.
SxF has no anime and is still pretty niche outside of hardcore jump circles. I doubt people would notice it even if KnY wasnt a thing, just as people didnt notice or know what AssClass was until anime and were surprised it was a strong seller from before the anime times.

Difference is that with current Manga reach outside Japan and with platforms like Manga+, SxF is a lot more popular and well known than AC was at this stage.

Agravity higher than normal nice to see, and Yozakura still frustratingly low. Biggest thing that stood out to me is what the hell happened to Moriking? All those great rankings and an early CP only to sink like a rock right after. I'm not even that big of a fan of the series and I'm baffled. Wondering what sales will be like, will still probably do better than BC and TPGW.

I dont know how we'd measure that, SxF isn't exactly lighting the mangaplus charts on fire, and view wise, just about everything seems way less viewed than people would expect there (nothing over 500K, really? Most in the 100K to 200K, really, for a site thats accessible worldwide? and series that are generation defining? way too low).

Perhaps manga+ needs some commercials and publicity push to give it visibility beyond hardcore jump fans.

Manga's still relatively niche compared to anime. Honestly all Spy X Family needs is a Kaguya-tier anime for it to become more visible worldwide.

I think it might not be a good idea to debut a sports manga with burn the witch.
because most likely the kubo manga will draw more attention than the manga of some newbie or an author who had a previous failure.

Is it a short series? Unless its a Boys Sports x Exorist manga, I dont know how a sports manga would be cannibalized by something thats going to be a short series in a separate genre.

I'm saying this because it's a manga by a famous author, even though it's short.

It is the same as what happened with samurai 8, he had his problems but he was much more prominent than the others who debuted with him.

It doesn't matter if the manga is popular outside Japan. Ghostwriter needs to be popular in Japan if they want it to survive (after all, japanese readers buy more manga).

Now, it is possible Ghostwriter could reach a japanese audience in Jump+. If I'm not mistaken, Jump+ has a different audience from WSJ.

However, we don't know if that will be the case. Ghostwriter could just have so bad reception in Jump+.

Beast Children was bad, Duoble Taisei started bad and got better later but probably too late and TSS was alright (although I found it really boring).
By your logic We Never Learn should have been axed because it started with Dr. Stone, Hungry Marie and RoboxLaserbeam all from veterans that should have taken the focus away from it.

Yeah. That’s why I was debating with you a while ago why SxF has a higher peak for its anime boost. Aside from the premise, of course.

Honestly, I expect Ghostwriter to have even worse reception on Jump+, when every negative opinions about it on the web will be posted directly right under every chapters.

For a moment I was confused because I thought BC was Black Clover. I had the same confusions with Beast Children.

Clearly, there's only room for one BC in this magazine.

There is no way to compare eyeshield 21 and kuroko with Bleach and Naruto, they are two very different measures.
Of course, a novice can do better than a veteran, what I'm talking about is that burn the witch will have a much greater spread than the manga that will debut with him.

I dont think the Author is as much of a factor to people following a jump manga than people think it is. Maybe they play a role in getting you to read chapter 1, but beyond that, it probably only has an effect in the editors letting it stick around a little longer than other series do.

Author probably plays more of a role when someone has multiple successful releases under their belt (fma writer, or the Rin-ne writer, etc), not [1] like Kubo, Kishimoto,

That's why I think that Ayakashi triangle should have a guaranteed 5 volumes, even if it has poor reception.

Yabuki had far more successes than tamura, in comparison.

SxF might be more popular outside Japan simply because of the resources available to manga fans and how manga and anime are more mainstream now than it was in 2012 - 2013.
But, that doesn't mean it's more popular than AC was in Japan. AC was a big thing in Japan and correct me if I'm wrong but didn't AC reach 1 million sales (for Vol 1) faster than SxF did?

Sure. You can't measure it.
But manga is vastly more mainstream now outside Japan than it was in 2012-2013. You have a far larger number of people now getting into manga and anime than you did in 2012-13.
You had to rely on fan scans and translations for new releases. And a lot of the times back then, forums like this were how people got informed. Whereas now, you have official ways to read manga for free and there are tons of people spreading anime/manga news on twitter and other social media platforms.

It's definitely more logical to assume SxF in 2020 is more popular (outside Japan) than AC in 2013.

well, we didn't see an illustration of all the jump characters with the art of kishimoto at the time of samurai 8.

I don't know how the reception of Ayakashi triangle is in Japan, but that must be something.
As someone else pointed out, they let the romcom/ecchi artists do that usually. It doesn't have anything to do with how popular a series is. For example in 2010, they let Mizuki Kawashita, the mangaka of Ichigo 100% draw a Jump heroine color page like the one we're getting now. At that time, Kawashita's current manga in Jump was Ane Doki, which ended up getting cancelled. But because she was a veteran author of romcom manga with ecchi elements, they let her draw the colour page. I'm pretty sure the same applies here.
