Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I think the main argument was "Give it time, it'll get better" which is what a lot of people here have a problem with.
That logic cannot work for a series in WSJ which is on a short leash.
Oh, for sure! I agree 100% with this, this kind of argument that something has potential and maybe someday will get better doesn't work that well for media and, specially, for Jump.

op says he's baffled that when people praise the title they ignore mentioning the story, implying they knew it's flawed but choose to ignore it
I replied about why that happens

If you genuinely like story then this doesn't apply to you

you can like whatever manga you like, art is subjective

in the case of newcomer it's basically this, I'm not gatekeeping or shitting on people's taste, I'm trying to rationalize why people can be less critical in situations when they should be

Omg... This scene...

I find TPGW the most overrated Jump series in YEARS. I mean, is crazy how with just 10 chapters is probably in the top-3 of manga with most positive reactions in West and with most negative reactions in Japan.

Maybe I'm exagerating but the mediatic noise that TPGW has in both positive and negative reactions is really abnormal. I don't even remember Samurai 8 having that noise. Heck, I don't even remember succesful manga like Neverland/Dr.Stone/Chainsawman having that noise when they started.

Meanwhile other new series have not that mediatic noise. Mashle is starting to get more comments lately, but Undead Unluck or Yozakura Family seem like they don't even exist. Ayakashi Triangle also looks like it doesn't exist despite Yabuki. Same for Hardboiled and Dolphin despite being by Ryuhei.

Best part was the toy just calling itself a convenient plot device. That's some Gintama level comedy gold right there.

I’d say overhyped, instead of overrated. Overrated implies everyone who reads it absolutely loves it but you don’t. (I’ll stop there.) But this isn’t the case. It’s very much loved in the West and hated in Japan, to generalize. But everyone is talking about it, yet you don’t think it’s really anything all that special.

Viz wiould do well to license TPGW for an English release. It’ll be the highest selling axe for them in a while. XD

I have a question

judging by what happens in TPGW, Double Taisei (we live in a society) and U19 (ALIENS!) where author just go fuck it, I'll do whatever I want

you think when Jump hands the author the cencellation notice they just stop having editors meeting and accept whatever they submits?

Well this is the first year where every WSJ manga is available weekly legally (and the legal option is the most convenient too), so there's probably a lot of people who've never or rarely ever followed a new jump manga from ch 1 before.
oh, yeah, that's another great point baby's first jump survival thread:teehee

The correct word is overhyped not overrated. Just look back how many ppl on this thread and other places hyped it so much with its first chapter giving it 10/10, saying it had a strong first chapter, etc. Also how the hype was building up since the announcement.

I want to think this was because it started in the same issue when KnY ended more than the premise itself, so releasing a new series at the same time as the most successful series in recent years ends, ppl would expect something huge with Timepara. Who knows.

Its not that im baffled that people enjoy it, obviously anyone can enjoy anything and im not gonna tell them not too. Im baffled around the constant praise for it when it just not good.

All you have to do is ask them "why is this manga so great" and you can pretty much guarantee they will fumble around because there is nothing outside of it being interesting (and by interesting I mean the last page cliffhanger because boy oh boy there is nothing else in these chapters) and art. And before anyone here misunderstand me im talking about those who praise it not like it.

No, I believe editors still meet with the mangaka to end it in a decent way. It's their duty to make sure the quality is kept irrespective of the circumstance.
Although not an legit representation of real life WSJ, Bakuman shows this as well.

Ghostwriter failed to do that
Well, it hooked easily impressed people with its somewhat rare premise of time travel. That's for sure.
Actually, I think this is great. May those easily impressed people learn their lesson and have a higher standard :super

Double Taisei (we live in a society) and U19 (ALIENS!)
Excuse me, it was great both in context and without context and totally fit the tone.
Also, why nobodies ever told me there was alien in U19!?

Different stokes for different folks. Ppl liking something you don’t is something you can’t really make since of.

I’ve been seeing constant Mashle praise itt, and it has high sales, but I honestly think it’s the worst series in last year or so. So I don’t get it.
But sometime ppl just praise stuff you don’t like, and don’t like things you praise

In relation to this, is there any manga that, when getting close to the axe, took the bad ending route and made the hero fail and the villain win?

My first hard experience with Jump policy was back in 2010 I think, I was enjoying Meister (soccer manga) and thought it looked very promising and then BAM! 10th chapter was the last. I had no concept of ToC whatsoever at the time. Then it happened again with Akaboshi: Ibun Suikoden.

Oh yeah, that is true! Viz translating the entire Jump roster means that now the survival process is highly publicized around the world. Oh man, I feel really sorry for the poor bastards who are just getting into manga on MP.

That reminds me, what was your first experience with the Jump Process, or the Jump Survival thread? I honestly got lucky - it was during the big batch of six in 2017, and the three series I enjoyed the most were Dr. Stone, Robot x Laserbeam, and We Never Learn.

Ok guys question. Do you expect any possible Chainsawman anime announcement in Jump Festa?

If this happen, I'm not expecting any more anime coming until 2023 at least, unless they somehow give Mashle a really early anime announcement, or unless we get surprised with a Yozakura anime announcement.
Before COVID-19 I'd say yes, for sure. After it, I really don't know. Maybe the announcement will happen, but it will probably take long for it to start airing.

Not really sure about jump, but it is about time you learn about the magical trainwreck that was Gal Cleaning.

TPGW is not deep, it is not the most innovative manga around and Teppei is annoying. It definitely could have developed better.
But even using an actual Deus ex-machina the author is tying the plot points together in its short run and there's some praise on it. I find it amusing since I never know what to expect but it still makes some sense. (But the final chapters can still ruin all the fun I had until now. And I'll be the first one to complain)

And, well, sales are by no means a measure of quality but we could stop treating this series like it's the biggest flop Jump has ever made since it's not.

Shoseki Weekly Ranking - 8/3~8/9

Jump

#223 Time Paradox Ghostwriter 1
#265 Moriking 1
#495 Bone Collection 1

The first WSJ early flop manga I remember reading was Lock On! back in 2010, I remember reading and quite liking it then it just stopped.

I think it was one of those series that actually placed quite well for a couple chapters but for whatever reason just dropped right to the bottom from there and couldn't recover.

I mean #223 for a first volume is horrendous. Don't think anyone said it was the biggest flop ever.
