It's a manga published first in WSJ as a direct spinoff of one of biggest series of all time. That's why it has the sales it has.
Doesn't take away the fact that the sales have nose dived from when it started which is everyone's point.

It continues because it still makes money because of the franchise's worth and name. It's living off the franchise name. You know, like how anything with Pokemon's name on it will sell like candy.

The anime argument is so weak. It has a long running anime because it's from Naruto's franchise from a studio that likes doing long running anime.
It's just trying to milk the franchise. How is this not obvious? (Rhetorical question)

You know, you can enjoy something and still accept the criticisms and shortcomings of it.

Btw boruto was an monthly release, so it was already weird and very pushing for it to stay on WSJ. It wouldve been a hindrance actually for the magazine if it stayed in wsj

It's not just for audience surrogates or whatever, it's also for the sake of have a more grounded character to highlight how absurd the crazy one is.

Same reason Moriking has Shoko around all the time not doing much except just commenting on the weirdness (it's especially common in Japan due to the popularity of Manzai comedy routines).

That's just another reason why this particular duo doesn't work (so far). The sidekick character is loudly and repeatedly yelling insults in people's faces and apparently failing to realise that this is not acceptable behaviour (let me remind you that we are talking about an adult holding an important public function in Japan). That's supposed to be grounded?

Normally, I quite like the "eccentric smart guy / straight guy" dynamic. But when the 'normal guy' is dumb as a brick, rude as a bear and subtle as a sledgehammer, it's not only hard to relate, but it also makes the egocentric reclusive genius look like a well-socialised rational person in comparison. I just cannot imagine this was the intent.

Condescending? It just make sense from a narrative stand point to have these kind of character, it allow the author to convey information about the world and the characters to the audiences without make it feel unnatural. And like tirakai said, it help to created contrast between the absurd and the mundane.

It feels condescending when the character asking the questions acts like a total moron, because it implies that the author thinks we need as much explanation as he does.

MHA- I hope this isn’t going the direction I think it’s going in.
JJK- There has to be a catch to this. Definitely my favorite chapter this week.
UU- Second favorite chapter, this series really is masterful. At this point I think the series has the potential to be a masterpiece with all of the stuff revealed.
Mashle- This series never cease to make me laugh
Dr stone- new arc hype
CSM- Honestly the first chapter that I don’t have much to say about it. It’s CSM being CSM.
OBO- meh I minus well drop it at this point. Sucks because this was my most anticipated manga.
HBDAC- Just recently caught up to it but this recent chapter was surprisingly sad. Overall the series is solid,
Phantom seer- we might be getting some interesting development but I won’t get my hopes up

Yozakura Family: Eeeh, disappointed that it went back to episodic stuff instead of following up from last week’s chapter

I think it was fun it's cool seeing people OC characters in a Manga chapter.

Yozakura was meh this week, the series is at it's weakest when it's throwing characters at the wall so a chapter purely about that didn't land for me, even if it was just a fan contest

This was my favorite Agravity in a while, most of the jokes landed for me

Undead was great, the series is great at reveals like this

Mashle was pretty good, action was nice and the gags were decent, but I don't think the female character needed to be there

Morking continues to rush to the end, even though I haven't cared much for the past few chapters I will miss it when it's time comes

Ayakashi was pretty good as well, it feels like it's finally finding it's groove. I like the new character as well

Magu was good, more heartwarming than funny but that's enough for me

Dolphin was also good, solid individual chapter

Roboco was great, I'm surprised at how much this series has grown on me

I think I'm finally sold on Phantom after this week's chapter, it still feels pretty standard but if it can put out chapters like these I'm fine with that

HSF was alright, probably it's weakest so far but I got a laugh from the last page so it's fine in my book

Still not a big fan of Blood Oath, I'm not invested enough to really care about all this melodrama

JJK was great this week, I'm still reeling from that last page. I thought this arc was resolved a little hastily for Dr Stone, but I enjoyed it overall. Ashumi route cements itself as the best route in WNL. I want to be optimistic about Mafuyu route now but seeing how the other routes went I'm cautious.

Would probably be a “Chapter 53.2 Bonus Chapter” type deal, instead of something part of the main story.

My guess for Phantom Seer is it'll take the same route in the ToC most new series seem to these days, start in the top 5 then gradually slide to the bottom. And whether it'll climb back up or not I think depends on what it does next, or if it sticks with episodic showing off MC's powers again.

This week's top 5:
1. Magu-chan: God of Destruction - Magu-chan caring about the dog and not wanting to be left behind with minions was super cute. Can't wait for the CP next week.
2. We Never Learn - Amazing ending, such a happy conclusion to this arc. That was an incredibly satisfying read. Leagues better than Rizu's and Fumino's endings.
3. Mashle - Opening color page was awesome, and the end of that battle was super refreshing to see. I wonder if we'll ever get a female character with some depth of character though.
4. Mission: Yozakura Family - I love that CP, and given that this was the chapter where the results for the spy contest were to be implemented, it was pretty obvious that it'd be an episodic chapter. I actually hope some of these spies pop up in the future too as nice nods to this like they did in Mitama.
5. Undead Unluck - Finally learning more about the remaining members of the Union and the world at large. Super pumped to see where this is going to lead to next.

The best of the rest:
6. Me & Roboco - Another solid chapter. His rich friend might actually be my favorite character in the series. He always has the best appearances. The mother always holding the knife is a funny gag as well. Pretty surprised this is growing on me.
7. Ayakashi Triangle - This chapter was pretty good, and the new girl seems pretty enjoyable. Curious to see what the next development will be.
8. Moriking - This is certainly ending in the near-ish future. The jokes this chapter were alright, but nothing else was that groundbreaking.
9. Agravity Boys - One of the better chapters of this entire series. Got some actual laughs out of it, oddly enough when the chapters use less of the guys and none of the second crew, the series is better.
10. Honomieru Shonen - The chapter was alright, no more or less. I'm a bit curious about the sister and what she'll say to the girl.
11. Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin - Pretty eh chapter. Not really funny enough to make me laugh at all, nor endearing enough to make me feel anything at the ending. A very weird choice of chapter development.
12. High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku - Looks like I got the cat chapter I was hoping for, but at what cost. Should've known it'd end up being nothing but a poop joke.
13. Chainsaw Man - Still not a fan of the fight scenes.
14. Our Blood Oath - Absolutely awful pacing and character development. I'm guessing it'll quickly become a bottomdweller.
