Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

considering Nak was Toriko's editor it's was very clear Shimabukuro would return sooner or later, it's just surprising how he just showed up without any build-up (no pun intended)

Sakamoto Days had an oneshot in 2020 Winter GIGA, btw.

Yep, the oneshot:

Yuuto Suzuki favorite manga: Doumu, Hunter x Hunter

Well, Nak wanted Kishi, Kubo and Shimabu to return. Looks like he gets what he wanted even if Kishi failed hard.

Whoa Sakamoto Days seems really violent if you check the one shot. I wonder if it will be the same in the serialization, but it looks interesting !

Excited for Build King and the Sakamoto Days oneshot looks cool too.

It's funny though that we've got possibly the highest number of new series in a year ever yet not one of them is sport, despite Haikyuu ending leaving no ongoing sports series running at all.

Thinking about it, it has been an interesting year with veterans returning

Kishi's Samurai 8 continued into 2020, but got cancelled
Yabuki finally returns to WSJ after a long time elsewhere
Kubo returns with a very popular mini-series
and now Shimabukuro's back

Now all we need is HxH to suddenly return at the last minute to replace WNL before the new year. Please?

Shimabukuro is always living 10 years behind art-wise. Like how when Toriko was a MANga when MANga ended the previous decade.
More like 30 years behind actually. Think it could be a success for the little ones though.

To be fair, Roboco has a similar style, and it is lately really giving vibes of becoming the biggest hit in 2020 (which somehow I wouldn't know how to feel about it).

Oh. Oof. The preview of Build King looks so ugly compared to the one shot.

Edit: Absolutely love Shimabukuro's art exactly BECAUSE it has the old muscle manga feel. I just think the new lead character design is really ugly compared to the main character from the one shot. As long as his overall art is still on point (no reason it wouldn't be), it isn't the end of the world, but these look like the most bland, forgettable main characters that I've seen in like 4 years of reading the magazine weekly.

To be fair Roboco's style is old fashioned but not in a bad way (vintage? don't know the exact word), it doesn't look off within the magazine. Meanwhile, Build King looks very outdated, like Shimabukuro stopped in time and doesn't know how to get out. It looks even worse when you compare the preview to the one-shot.

To be honest I'm not very interested in any of the new series as of now.

Shonen Jump issue 49 cover:

Shonen Jump issue 50 preview, where we can see Komatsu has became the MC of Build King:
Wow the build king art looks like something out of the 1970s
Robocco also gave me that vibe, but in that it feels like a deliberate art style having self-referential gags and being self-aware.
Maybe Shimabukuro have a plan

It fits because the art is exactly what you’d expect out of a gag manga. So people kind of give it a pass.
