Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Additionally, 15 of the 21 current series started after HxH last went on hiatus, so have never ran alongside the series. Of the ones that have, I think:

- Jujutsu has been around for 15 chapters of HxH
- WNL and Dr Stone have been around for 30 chapters of HxH
- Black Clover has been around for 41 chapters of HxH
- and MHA has been around for 45 chapters of HxH
Togashi is waiting for Chainsawman to end before he comes back smh, started right after his last chapter.

hell id guess 30 mil in 2021 if not more
If it keeps up the momentum probably, but it's hard to predict if jujutsu will grow more or will simmer down.

So it seems Gotouge asked for extended pages for the final chapter but didn't get them and this is the final chapter as intended, and the obi talking about "epilogue" was mistaken as the 14 pages are the pages that were originally cut from the chapter.
Kinda weird that jump can't give their most popular manga some extra pages to give a farewell to it fans. And what funnier is that it the same issue TPGW debut, meaning for some KnY last chapter was cut for TPGW.

*puts on tinfoil hat*

Jump was being salty because Gotouge didn’t want to extend the series past Tanjirou’s demonification..
Plus they’re all sluts for OP.

Has shounen jump ever extended a manga?

People keep mentioning it, but it really doesn't seem like they do this at all.

It apparently used to be fairly common. Even way back when Jump first started we know Otoko Ippiki Gaki Daisho was made to continue past the ending. Apparently its forced extra chapters aren't even included in later volume collections.

Firstly, the editorial department is slowly loosening up its policy on manga ending. In the past, Nakano admitted during the interview that the editorial department often wouldn’t let a manga end as long as it was popular, refusing any author’s request to do so.

However, sometimes letting a series end is the best thing to do for the series itself. Hiryouki Nakano offered the example of Yusei Matsui’s Assassination Classroom during the interview as a series that was allowed to end according to the author’s plan and ended up being an instant Jump classic because of it.

Google translation of the original interview
Nakano: I think the timing just overlapped around "Ko chigame". However, perhaps it ends in the place where it wants to draw what the writer wants to draw than in old days. I think that the editorial department has come to accept that it is better to end the series for the work. Jump has long been criticized for not ending popular works. Actually, I don't think that's the case, but I think there were some undeniable parts. Because it does not go easily because the writer says, "I want to finish" and it is said, "Please".

Takekawa: It's a big deal of damage for a magazine to finish a series of big works. However, of course, it depends on the content, but I think there is a life span of the work.

Nakano I'm going to say, "I think I can draw something like this." Professor Yusei Matsui's "assassination class" was firmly conceived from the beginning, and I decided to make the development of the media at such a timing, looking ahead to where the story was exciting, so I felt that there was no shake. If you finish it properly according to the plan, the teacher also has the time to draw the next work. As an editor and reader, I have both feelings of "I want to read this work forever" and "I want to read this teacher's new work", so it is difficult to take which one.

Thanks man.
So it seems that recently they are allowing series to end whenever they want or atleast beginning to do so.

Nice to see that jump is capable of positive change.

Was it ever confirmed Death Note was forced to continue? I know there was theories certain events in Bakuman were hinting at that but it seems weird it would still only be just over 100 chapters if it was.

Well, to quote Oda: "Gotta love Jump for sticking to its guns." No matter how great the series :D

I know Mind Assassin got axed at 28 chapters but Jump sorta gave it a second life by having special one shots published in both the Seasonal Specials and Monthly Shonen Jump (these are the volume 4 and 5 chapters). I don't think Jump ever gave an axed manga this sort of treatment again.

I meant as in forced the manga to Conteniue despite the author wanting it to end, not giving an axed manga one shots.
Sorry for not being clear.

Do you guys think Kimetsu no Yaiba will reach 150 000 000+ sales once we know the numbers out of Japan?

I think that’s entirely possible. I’d be surprised if it doesn’t beat Naruto’s WW record at least.

I dunno, is it really that big of a hit overseas compared to it?

Manager at Kinokuniya New York store: "Our best-selling English translated manga is Demon Slayer. The unit price is not so high, so the sales are incredible. I can't disclose the amount of sales, but it can be several copies a day, and it's very hard to order replenishment. It's overwhelmingly popular."
Until the English translation was published, some of them bought the Japanese original manga, which is also available at the store, and the enthusiasm was surprising.
"The popularity of Kimetsu no Yaiba in the U.S. is sure to come in a second wave with the release of the film in the U.S. next year," said Benigno.
Aside from Kimetsu, there are some of the most exciting works in the U.S. right now. "Jujutsu Kaisen," he says, "is already very popular. It's already popular, but in the U.S., manga has been selling since the start of anime, so I think it will boom even more in the future," he stressed.
Seems to be fairly successful at the very least

We don't have enough data.

But it doesn't seem to place well in France and it appeared occasionally in the American rankings*(though not in the top spot).

*my hero that constantly has multiple volumes in the top 20(most of them in the top 10)in the USA rankings and has been around for 5(?)years in the American Market , has only 5 million in circulation in the USA, demon slayer is much younger and doesnt place as highly so I don't expect to reach 5 million in the US.

Other countries are unknown though.
