Never posted my thoughts last week as I didn't read when they came out and frankly wasn't impressed by most series apart from MHA and JJK. Thankfully this issue was much better:
Great:
1. Jujutsu Kaisen - I'm thoroughly enjoying this arc; loving how its brought together scattered elements from across the story into this clash. I thought Shibuya arc was going to be the highlight of Jujutsu Kaisen but this is already more interesting.
2. My Hero Academia - Nice to see familiar faces back after being absent for so long, and even more thrilled with that final page. Very keen to see where this new Deku is going to go.
3. One Piece - Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the Wano characters featured in this chapter I thought it was a nice wrap-up to their dilemma, and now we're back to the battle that matters. Seeming even more unlikely that Wano won't end this year at this rate...
Good:
4. Me & Roboco - After last week's definite miss I welcome the return of the Roboco mangaka storyline, always gives me plenty of chuckles with all the parodies and this was no different.
5. Sakamoto Days - Liked the new character introduced, another fun chapter with a pretty cool pay off at the end.
6. Nine Dragons' Ball Parade - Again, Nine Dragons tackles the tropes with such confidence, never falling for the cliches despite things going the way you expect. It manages to feel mature and sensible and well-earned all at once. Looking forward to seeing how this new characters is introduced.
7. Black Clover - Asta coming in to save the day with his anti-magic has been done about 48 times at this point but it's still cool, still fun. Liked the way it carried on with the flashback as well.
8. Undead Unluck - Not quite as impactful as the confrontation surrounding Winter but another really solid chapter.
9. High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku - I think the dad might be my new favourite. His chapters never fail to make me laugh. I've enjoyed the series even more since the 15 page increase.
10. Mashle - Nice break from the action, Mash back with his comedy. Good stuff.
11. WITCH WATCH - Maybe the best chapter so far? Very much welcome this new member of the cast; at this point we need things to shake up the rather boring routine we're already in between the lead characters.
Fine:
12. Phantom Seer - It's a decent power-up but not anything special at this point. I will continue to give the series points however for allowing its female MC to also stand up and deliver when it comes to action.
13. The Elusive Samurai - Glad this little game is wrapped up, liked how it concluded but definitely ready for the next stage of the story to kick off now.
14. Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin - Bordering between silly and serious in a way that I'm not sure about. Kind of just want it to wrap up now for its own good.
Bad:
15. Mission: Yozakura Family - One mega powerful and dramatic flashback after another is becoming very tiring.
16. Magu-chan: God of Destruction - One of the better chapters in a while thanks to the cherry blossom stuff but this new character is plain annoying.
17. I tell c - Well, I guess this is the real start of the series? Can't tell if this was planned or a slapdash attempt at restarting for new readers to latch onto it but either way it's not very good.
18. Build King - First time in a while it's not been my least favourite of the week, at least!
19. Ayakashi Triangle - This mirror stuff is zzzz.
I hope this new lot doesn't have gags, and it dyes a more serious manga
This conversation deserves to die a death but there is seriously only two gag manga right now, a slice of life with comedy/fantasy elements, and a romcom that even had action this week. Everything else is a hybrid or is a series of another genre that has jokes in it. If we get some new comedies it'll be absolutely fair, especially if it offsets the fourteen or fifteen action-focused series right now (though personally I'd love another sports manga).
