Friend, the sale of these manga shows that jump has an audience. It does not matter if it is someone who buys the regular magazine or not.

I know that people are not obliged to buy volumes, but only the act of buying and sales have grown is solid proof of support.
Positioning and color pages are solid proof of support too. Just look at Yozakura Family and Mashle. Neither are in the top five of manga sales but are positioned like they are Jump staples. This shows that they are supported by fans.

Mashle has great sales and deserves the positions he has. And yozakura there was a time that everyone thought it would be canceled even if it sold well, it took him a long time to have good positions and CP.

If Mashle and Yozakura didn't have good sales, would you use that excuse?

The problem is that we have 7 series in the magazine that you use uses the argument of positions to justify the poor sales performance.

I think yozakura also lived in a different time, and it's monthly sales actually grew unlike phantom seer

There was no patience to see if the 3rd volume of phantom seer would improve sales or not. It doesn't matter now.

Some series take a little time to grow. Both promotions should really help cop & dolphin sales increase.
C&D feels like it's in endgame territory already, I'm pretty sure it won't live much longer. But it's good he's taking his time to wrap things up nicely.

Phantom Seer probably had internal issues that led to it ending. Perhaps the writer had writers block and didnt know where to go next so they ended the series.
That's extremely unlikely. They just introduced five new villains, and they were still dealing with the first one. They clearly had enough ideas to keep it going for a while longer.

They even wrote an extra chapter for the final volume.

I don't think it's always necessary to bring something new to the demographics. Just be good.

Itellc tries to be something different, but that will not be enough to save him from being canceled.

and I tell c will probably be axed as well depending on some factors. "Be good" It literally went down in sales, and they overprinted it cause its first volume made it seem big. It doesn't have any big series that are ending to save it, Phantom Seer got axed that's it.

Seriously, what's the point of fighting over which of the bottom ranked series are getting cancelled in which order? The difference between Build King going this round and Cop and Dolphin lasting another doesn't make much a difference either way. Neither does the earlier pinning of the blame on series like Magu-chan. Chances are all these series will be gone within 2021 just like Phantom Seer so fighting over the scraps to prove a point is just reductive. Either way it does look like it will be BK going next.

If we do get some more hits from the likes of Sakamoto Days, The Elusive Samurai, WITCH WATCH, and the upcoming Blue Box then we might be at the stage where which of the rest gets canned next will be way more telling and worth debating over. Once we're at the point where Me & Roboco, Ayakashi Triangle, and Mission: Yozakura Family (if it doesn't naturally end like I think it might by this year) are considered unsafe again then we'll be back to a competitive roster in the magazine.

Dragon Quest OP V2 (these new changes are so fucking hype)

ED 2

I still can't get over how hype last week's episode was and nice emotional bits too. Now is the perfect time to get caught up with the series for those who put it on hold.

Why would it end when its at the point where an Anime could be announced for it any week now.

Stop with the overprinting shit, the second volume got reprinted after its release. Why would they reprint it if it was overprinted ??? The whole Phantom Seer debate is annoying, I know, but don't go and create arguments out of nowhere to defend your opinion

We don't know if they do have poor sales performance or not. Jump editors could believe the mangas are selling within expectations. We do know that sales arent the only thing that matters because this thread constantly said Phantom Seer was selling exceptionally well and it was cancelled. If sales were important why would you cancel a high selling series?

Also we know that we shouldn't expecting something like Magu-Chan or Mission: Yozakura Family to be selling like Jujutsu Kaisen or Demon Slayer since they appeal to totally different audiences and people.

Thus, positions and color pages matter more than sales. We've had low selling series survive for years, like Hinomaru zumou. If phantom seer had good positions then it would survive.

It makes a difference of 5-10 chapters per round they survive, which is a pretty big deal for a series less than a year old. If PS for example survived for an extra round and made it to ch 36-40, that'd be long enough to do a full final battle or even a whole extra arc, instead of having to rush a finale in one chapter.

Plus surviving one dangerous round means they could survive even more, series have survived for more than a year in the past purely because there was always enough new flops to keep them off the bottom after all. It could even give them time to try something different and develop a consistent fanbase like Yozakura. Series at risk one round might become safe by the next batch.

This is a bad idea, cancel a manga with good sales and keep a manga with bad performance alive, no matter how much you argue.

If you want to keep manga like magu chan alive, that's fine, but at least have a reasonable amount of series to compensate for the poor performance of other series, and WSJ doesn't have that amount yet.

Sales may not be the only factor in keeping a series alive, but it should have a greater weight.

They reprint it doesn't mean they sold all the reprint. They could under-print it the 1st time and when they heard that it need a reprint, they over-print the reprint. Most data showed PS sold around 40 to 50k copies while it circulation number is 100k.

44k copies in first month without digital sales ≠ 40-50k overall.

Oricon estimated around 20k for vol 1 and 21k for Vol 2. And Oricon already overestimate stuff. Not only that, if you look at the sale chart, you see that after the first month the sale barely go up. Meaning it has a strong start but has no staying power. Meaning the sale of the following month barely increase the number.

I think you mean Shoseki. Phantom Seer only ranked in Oricon for its first week with it’s second volume. Going back to Shoseki, with PS’s second volume it managed it rank weekly 3 times which showed it had legs and growth. Then in regards to volume 1 it stopped ranking weekly after it’s second week at 14k and then disappeared from the weekly charts, so that original 22k was an overestimation like you pointed out.

No one can say for sure what happened with Phantom Seer, but considering the circulation number and the fact that it got an announcement that it’s ending when most axes don’t, I think they wanted to show respect to what Phantom Seer accomplished during its run. All in all I’m trying to say, painting this narrative that PS was this complete flop is wrong.

It does have greater weight. But in many cases, the sales are not big enough to offbalance the TOC positions. PS had pretty good sales. But we learned that those sales were not large enough to keep it in the magazine. I guess Jump did not want the same two series hogging the bottom two spots for another five/ten weeks.

Either way I wish we could talk about anything else.

I wish I had the same confidence as you to call Blue Box a hit this early on. I really hope it becomes one. That art style is so unique for Jump, and has a really comforting feel to it.

If we get to that point by the end of the year I think that would be amazing. As much as I like all our less-successful cult favorites right now, I want to see the days of a competitive Jump again. I hope Kowloon gets to be a part of that, too, but y'know.
