If you are that much butthurt about the idea of sex sell, I can't imagine how furious you are about another opinion that guy has which I don't fully agree with.

Have fun.
Dear God, you are the one that have butthurt. And huge one. I get Akumatsu concern. Its understandable. But his point how Magazine are better for having idols cover is stupid to me. That just that.

I don't think anything wrong or exploitation about gravure cover of magazine.
They are all PG as hell and not like any of those idols gonna have wrist issue for taking them (which mangaka certainly did).
Hell, I don't there are as many case of mangaka from magazine suffers long injury like jump (Katsura Hoshino, Daisuke Ashihara, Yoshihiro Togashi and now Akutami Gege). Whatever magazine is doing (maybe dem idol cover), they are certaintly doing something better than jump.

People often are angry because the way "sex sells" makes them uncomfortable.

Many women are conscious about their bodies, so they will be uncomfortable with these being used as fanservice. Instead, many men aren't so conscious about their bodies, that's why most of them wouldn't have a problem with shirtless guys.

That said, many men are conscious about their masculinity. If the fanservice "attack" their masculinity, many men would complaint.

An example: Final Fantasy Mobius changed the suit of the protagonist after many complaints of male gamers.

That is the dumbest assumption I ever see on this idiotic place.
Just because you are an ignoramus who only know jump, doesn't mean everyone else is as much of an ignoramus as you are.

Nah. There has been worst assumptions in this forum.

I just remember an assumption saying "there aren't female editors in WSJ, because they don't want to work with sweaty men".

That was one much dumber assumption.

Can we please get back to talking about Weekly Shounen Jump in this Weekly Shounen Jump topic?

Anyways what's everyone's predictions for what we'll see in the upcoming batch which will probably be announced next issue?

It seems likely that we'll get 3 series but since Jump's actually pretty decent on variety right now compared to much of last year with plenty of battle shounen, 3 at last half-romcoms, 3 gag manga, and a couple part-sports series (and Ball Parade but it's ending), so there's no main genre that stands out as something they'd want to push. Except maybe a new pure-sports but I don't know if they'll put one out so soon after Ball Parade being a complete failure.

My guess on authors is one total newbie, one author returning from a flop, and one veteran (thinking either Komi and Asou, unless HxH miraculously returns). No idea on genres but I feel like we may see a new more unique genre not in their usual 4, like how we got Ghost Writer last year.

My main pet peeve with all of this is the fact that i. a way, using idols for covers sort of degenerates the value of manga in a manga magazine. The Kowloon artist even made a point of this when they made a point about how it was the first time they made the cover for their new series. If I was a mangaka, I would honestly be offended if the only reperesentation my series had in the cover was a small little circle compared to the idol hogging up the space, despite only being a feature for no more than 20 pages compared to the rest of the 480 pages in the mag. I have nothing against gravure, but it belongs in Weekly Playboy or FRIDAY, not manga mags. An alternative is to just hire an artist to make some sort of non specific illustration featuring a mascot or something (common practice back in the days for Young Jump/Magazine and the like).

Sakamoto's color pages and covers always have an energy to them. I also love the type of coloring used, it doesn't have a proccesed look to it which I love.

The last series I know of that didn't get a cover in Jump was Bakuman. in 2008. It was pretty common in previous decades for debuting series not to get the cover (I don't think any of the 19 series that began in 1982 got the cover, for example).

I don't think it's that big a deal. As for the idols, it probably allows teenagers and older fans to buy manga magazines without the fear of appearing childish.
