Unless we have a big round next time, let's all take a moment for how unfortunate it is that Gonron Egg was first in its round. Cause JK and MAYBE MND will survive another round because they came later

So imagine if Gonron was the last series in the batch and the ensuing anger of it lasting longer than Kaedegami lmao 😂

I will never forgive Saito canning Kaedegami in favor of Gonron Egg, specifically...
If it was for Mage Next Door or Hero Girl & Demon Lord, I will still be mad, but I won't be as mad as much, because Gonron is such an anomaly that any series getting replaced by it would ignite the anger of a hundred hurricanes and the fury of a million wasps

They don't can anything in favor of another. The order doesn't matter. Kaedegami would still be canned and replaced on the exact same issue if Gonron didn't exist.

I was gonna respond to Samu complaining about the tonal versatility with "man, you would've hated Beelzebub" but in the end decided it wasn't worth it.
Yeah, seriously this is starting to irk me a bit because it's not possible that some members are this unable to deal with a simple change of tone at the end of the chapter which serves as a simple cliffhanger, i can understand in chapters like the Suzaku emotional death & next pages going direct to Natsuki boobs but this time it wasn't even sudden, the way it went from Gakuro and Machida talking about feelings, to Gakuro getting immersed in his own thoughts, his "heart" appearing in the reality and 2 of the Hyo goons appearing to attack was well done in my opinion, and it's literally in the context of the moment since they were in the poll and it was said in the first page of the chapter that 1 of the resort "Bosses" was in the poll where Gakuro & Machida were spending time, so it was bound to happen lol
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

First chapter for recents debuts:

Embers: 314 posts
Star of Beethoven: 183 posts
Nice Prison: Didn't rank, below 88 posts
Otr of the Flame: 270 posts
Harukaze Mound: 378 posts
Kaedegami: 432 posts
Ping Pong Peril: 284 posts
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo: 9940 posts
Someone Hertz: 342 posts
Gonron Egg: 136 posts
The Mage Next Door: 112 posts
Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits: 111 posts

Under Doctor: 123 posts

In general seems like people are losing interest in the new series, but even then Under Doctor did worse than Gonron Egg, the previous batch starter. Not very good. We have examples like Someone Hertz doing great and better than Harukaze Mound and Kaedegami even with less posts, so it's not some insanely important metric, but it's interesting to see such a big drop for the last two batches.
One thing probably worth mentioning, i think the account might not have counted the japanese tweets using the "Under Doctor" english title, just the jp title, so that probably hurt the results, but anyway, Twitter mentions is just a fun metric, don't take it as any metric to guess what will survive or not, like, Kaedegami is literally there lol

Btw, what i read so far in the comments in some Forums and etc, the first chapter is well received, let's see how it will perform on J+

Gotta love how we Nue fans have to basically be called weird for own tastes while we never reply to all the opinions calling Nue bad/slop.

Guess we just gotta take it:super!
Tbh, Nue fans are super weird, and I have a suspicion it's because of the author himself.

I saw Kota Kawae at a convenience store in Shibuya yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen choco eggs in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the eggs and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each egg and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Oh no, we're doomed Nuebros, Kawae was trying to steal from a convenience store, Kawae & Nue will get canceled in Japan! :biblethump

It may appear on Oricon but for now great to see Someone Hertz reaching 40k!

And all the extensive promotion and color pages but Shinobi still can barely pull a growth of 2k copies:

Shinobi Undercover #5 (17,337) - 27 Days
Shinobi Undercover #6 (18,632) - 21 Days

At least is not declining.

Does jump use english text when advertising sakamoto days on twitter?
Jump seems to be using 'under doctor' instead of アンダードクター over there cause I'm seeing many japanese readers using the #underdoctor tags too

Finally posting my thoughts:

Under Doctor: Really liked it, the writing and dialogue was as good as the art when i checked the raw, it's not any "masterpiece" or something of course but it's pretty good specially compared to recent Jump new series, the artstyle i say again, it's a mix of Spy x Family with My Hero Academia sprinkled all over it (the author is a former assistant), Haiji is a charismatic mc right out of the gate, the design looks even better in the actual chapter, i don't know if is just me but the personality alongside the design does reminds me a bit of Taiyo (Yozakura), like he has a calm and kind personality and vibe but when is time for the fight he becomes a badass with "aura" and etc.

The first chapter worked pretty similarly to Spy x Family 1st chapter where you have the main character in a mission and the author gives you just enough of the mc personality, his abilities and even a page of flashback to make you curious, and it ends in a comic way, and personally i think it worked pretty well as a 1st chapter, just the fact it wasn't a "by the book" battle shounen 1st chapter style is already a plus.

Now, pretty good start, you can feel the author confidence through the work, it doesn't feel like amateurish but it is from a complete newbie, but i really hope the author knows how to follow that because the chapter itself really gives you little room to have a solid idea of how the story will actually be but i doubt it will fall into the "generic battle shounen" category, it doesn't feel like this type of series but i also don't expect to be a traditional "medical/doctor" series with the mc doing surgeries and stuff, i do hope the author doesn't fall into the trap of being a episodic manga, or at least for more than just the few first chapters, can get into slow pace, this is what killed series like Otr of the Flame.

Anyway, i liked and hyped for the series, it has plenty of potential and good luck for the author!

Score: 8.5 / 10
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

My thoughs for other series:

Nue's Exorcist: Damn, Machida is on her way to climb to the top of the harem like she's the terminator, no one can stop her, i always liked her design since the beach chapter but we didn't have much from her besides that but in 2 chapters she's already top 2 lmao!

And btw, Machida one of the best examples of how much of a glow up Kawae's artstyle went through these 2.5 years:

He's getting scarily good in drawing bodies (and Machida seems to be getting "bigger" by each chapter) lol

Someone Hertz: Finally a change of pace after all the Koshien stuff, pretty cute and funny chapter with the two matching stuff, i do wonder where the series will go after this, not like you should expect something since it's a slice of life romcom so i really doubt we will have anything really serious happening for a while, maybe we will get to know more Mon-Mid listeners?

The Mage Next Door & Hero Girl and Demon Lord: Man, these two chapters actually made me a bit frustrated seeing these two series flopping in the rankings because i thought both were pretty cool chapters, The Mage Next Door is pretty funny, Osoegawa is a pretty cool main character and i love the running joke of the shirts with different words, it's a perfectly fine comedy series with some cool magic/fight moments lol and JK Hero, one of the best chapters of the manga in my opinion, really funny and cute too, another series that works perfectly fine as a slice of life romcom series, it's kinda frustrating to me because i dont really see anything close to being awful in both that you could use to say "yeah, its just not working at all, specially JK Hero, i almost feel like it's in the wrong magazine, i could see this manga working just fine on Shonen Champion or Magazine Pocket for example, but in a place like Shonen Jump where is mainly about survey votes, maybe a series like this is just not made for it.

Goron Egg: Shuhei Tanizaki is definitely not cut for weekly serialization, what's going on man, 12 chapters and his art has deteriorated to this level, this is crazy, authors are supposed to improve their drawing skills through serialization, not getting worse, if you check his one shots his artstyle is pretty cool but that totally didn't translated to weekly serialization, i'm sure if this was a monthly manga the art would be pretty cool but weekly? it looks worse than a lot of the amateur stuff Jump GIGA publishes every issue, there's no way i see him coming back to Jump after this, his art limitations alone will kill anything he try to do on Jump.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

You know, i think there's is an author that i think is more than ready for an official debut in this year and that he is called Shinosuke Toujo.

He is an author who has managed to launch around three one shots in the span of one year with his official debut with Zombie John in Weekly Shonen Jump.

Here is the first one shot he launched as a newcomer in ther form of Zombie John, that launched in Weekly Shonen Jump 2024 issue 40

His next one shot would be Naraku no Kyoshiro in Jump Giga 2025 Winter

Finally there is Tsuchi Ningyou ga Yume no ato in Jump Giga 2025 Autumn

The amount of improvement within the span of a year is pretty wild to see. So i say this dude is a high target to debut sometime in the year if he is that consistent. Also the fact that all his one shots are of a variety of different genres do help him out greatly.

Sorry, thought i would share this given that what i did share is trapped in the other thread so i might as well bring this here for those to enjoy and all that.

Feel free to disagree or agree with me on this.
I know that, its just that at times i do end up coming more across as a dick when it comes to my critiques around certain series. God i know i was during the magus of destruction and high school family batch. Not proud at that period to be honest.

Oh yeah, what are your thoughts about the comment i made about Shinosuke Toujo? I just have a good feeling that he is being prepared to debut sometime this year.

Here is the post I said this
Sorry for taking long to answer, i checked the one shots and...well, that's something else for sure lol

The author seems to have a peculiar taste, in special supernatural & horror elements but mixed with some comedy or at least some sense of humor, kinda a bit like Tim Burton? I don't know if is the best example, in the last one shot you posted his art actually reminded me quite a bit of Raiku Makoto (Gash Bell) artstyle during his time on Shonen Magazine with Vector Ball.

Being honest, i could see him debutting in the magazine but at the same time his style of manga "Horror/bizarre stuff with a touch of comedy" feels like pretty hard to make it work in a magazine like Jump, because his art isn't anything great but his style of writing also feels like kinda niche, so yeah, i don't know, wouldn't be against him running in the magazine of course.

Gotta love how we Nue fans have to basically be called weird for own tastes while we never reply to all the opinions calling Nue bad/slop.

Guess we just gotta take it:super!
To be fair, I do try not to limit my criticism to Nue's Exorcist being that it's just gooner slop. But then again I also do see criticism here of other titles for essentially being slop with no character or creativity of their own that only a braindead battle shonen fan could possibly like. So it goes both ways.

I was gonna respond to Samu complaining about the tonal versatility with "man, you would've hated Beelzebub" but in the end decided it wasn't worth it.
Well since you've now responded with that very thing I can confirm indeed that I think Beelzebub is a perfect middling B- tier series, so I guess you're right on the money.

Nue's Exorcist fans critique other series on here every week - as they can and should - but that does not remove Nue's Exorcist from similar criticism. If hearing that makes you guys feel defensive then that's how fans of other titles feel as well then. Like I mentioned earlier, it just so happens that NE is a series generally well liked and voted for here. Its fans praise it every week while it doesn't really get any real hate since it became a staple of the magazine.

What seriously irks you as a simple change of tone is what I view as bad writing and makes the series harder to enjoy. I'm sorry I'm unable to 'deal with that', we just have different tastes.

What you described as being successful done for you was (for me) another poor attempt at managing tone which I've found to be a problem in the series throughout its run. Like I said, I'm used to enjoying the elements of a series (Bleach) that would be critiqued for those things week on week (lack of backgrounds, mysterious foot appearing, arms being cut off, character appearing behind someone in a clutch moment, story critiques that don't resonate with me).

After seeing the thread be pretty consistently negative from Nue Exorcist fans for months while they continue to love the series I felt like putting out my own opposite take that Nue's Exorcist is in fact not great for me and in general I think the magazine is producing some otherwise good titles. I guess we just don't all agree!

It's not that I feel defensive and I'm not trying to be rude, I just feel like you're criticizing the series because it's not how you want or think it should be written, rather than reading it at its own wavelength.
That's just my perspective though. We all perceive things in our own way.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

And you raise an interesting point by bringing up how it does seem to be primarily the Nue's Exorcist forum stans who are more heavily critical of Saito and the state of the magazine. For me personally, I think it's because Nue's Exorcist feels nostalgic in a way, like a classic 00's Jump series I grew up with. Like I could see this running in the mag back then and being a popular series.

Nue's Exorcist is in fact not great for me and in general I think the magazine is producing some otherwise good titles. I guess we just don't all agree!
to me it's kind funny because Nue in the beginning was in fact really good to me, don't what happened that i totally lost the interest in the series after chapter 80 (to be precise, it started at chapter 80, i dropped after chapter 103 if i'm not mistaken), i just think i didn't quite like the way the story was going.

The wedding ceremony arc reminded me of NISEKOI and i had goosebumps 🤣 🤣

To be fair, I do try not to limit my criticism to Nue's Exorcist being that it's just gooner slop. But then again I also do see criticism here of other titles for essentially being slop with no character or creativity of their own that only a braindead battle shonen fan could possibly like. So it goes both ways.
It does NOT go both ways because you do not see me going "I wanna scratch my head when I see Shinobi/Mage praise", I just call them what I think they are on their own and that's that.
