WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP THREAD RULES​

#7. Refrain from self advertising or advertising Youtubers videos in the comments.
#8. Constant fanart posts just for the sake of praising a favorite series is prohibited, this rule doesn't apply for official art by Jump artists posted on social media, they're fine to post.
#9. Don't discuss or hype chapter spoilers before Sunday release, only comment if is related to a series surviving status and do it only inside the spoiler tag.
#10. Regarding rule #9, an exception will be made for when we have new series, in this case, spoilers will be allowed only for the first 3 chapters of a new series for the users who are interested in knowing informations and details about the new series, these spoilers will obviously be kept under tags to protect anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled, so don't worry about it.

I will clarify I think we still have more to get out of Dess before she exits the narrative, but I do think we’ll continue to see Ichi growing in such a way as to not rely on her as much. I don’t suppose she can really be killed off though, given the magical contract she made with Ichi.

Feels refreshing seeing a new face in the top of our rankings after a endless mix of Ichi, Kagurabachi & Akane lol

Btw, talking about Akane, the series has been quite low in the last weeks which is pretty rare and i noticed that curiously it also has been lower in the ToC, is the current arc really not that interesting?

For what its worth I used to like Akane and even bought like the first 8 volumes lol.

I’ve been enjoying the current Akane arc a lot but I guess it’s a step down because the last one was amazing. That said I haven’t been in the habit of voting here for a while so that’s one less first place vote for Akane lol.

I think akane is really good in a binge, but I definitely fell off of weekly a while ago.

When the double spread is used all the time for the exact same thing it kind of loses its impact. When I open up an Akane rakugo chapter I literally think “yeah whatever lets get to that double spread THERE IT IS LOL” and move on to the next manga.

Multiple spreads in a row can be hard af if used correctly. I think it is normal for battle shounen that operate on a gigantic level like OP and UU to have more double spreads than regular.

I'm not criticizing Akane for this because I'm not up to date and I like it a lot, so I'm not sure if they're overused later. But I do think they're overused in Jump in general.

Not something that drives me mad, but I prefer proper paneling to be used more and leave spreads only for a few moments that make sense. Spamming them is a bit too obvious and I don't like how overvalued they're when people post examples of "good manga art" and it's just a bunch of spreads. It's all about balancing it really, like every other ingredient.

See this is interesting because I have the complete opposite feeling when reading an Akane rakugo chapter. I always think "ok what's the cool looking double spread of this chapter gonna look like?" and then I get to it and (most of the time) it looks great and it elevates the chapter for me. It's a source of excitement rather than just a "oh there it is" kinda thing.

Actually tbh I'm on the complete opposite side of many here when it comes to double spreads. Obviously I wouldn't want a whole chapter of them lol, but I think when used correctly that even consecutive double page spreads can be pretty impactful and really cool. It's not WSJ but the latest Choujin X chapter is a good example of this. Also like Ebrietas said, sometimes some series are so big in scale that double page spreads are the only way to do them justice, so they're arguably served better with a lot of double page spreads. A lot of those Undead Unluck or One Piece panels would suck if they were reduced to a single page or less.

While I agree that balancing is important and that there are loads of single pages or even panels that have very good art worth showing off, a double page spread is always gonna be used as an example of good art because it IS the page(s) that the artist puts most effort into. So naturally it'll look good, I don't really begrudge people for using double page spreads for many examples of an artist's peak.

I will never say anything bad about Akane. At most, we can say that Akane is winning too much now. I guess we are tired of so much winning. One of the most interesting stretches came from when she lost to Hikaru. She had to deal with losing the opportunity for a faster recommendation, and had a lot of learning to do, etc. She had more obstacles.

As much as she had her difficulties at the Zuiun Price, it was not like before. I don't even know if I agree with what I just wrote, actually, lol. Anyway, maybe that's the feeling that readers/y'all are having.

Not being around the Shiguma school pupils is sad too, because they were funny and helped a bit on the SoL part of the series.

Regarding double pages, Moue always delivers. ALWAYS. Using it is not an issue.
