And man, I should give Mamayuyu a read sometime with how many users here seemed to dig it. Came out at the tail end of my manga hiatus.
I would say we have similar tastes by the posts here, so I'll recommend Mamayuyu as well. Easily one of the best axed manga they ever published, Hayashi is a gem of an author with interesting ideas and knows how to put them on paper. He also leans on the otaku side like Kawae and these influences show clearly on his stories, but always with is own spin, so I have a soft spot for the guy,

If anything, I think he failed because of how the first chapters have no clear hook and a lot of the concepts people assumed would be in the story weren't really used. We got something better, but misleading readers almost never works. lol

He was also unlucky. If he debuted a few batches later he would still be here. Sorry, Kiyoshi fans, but it'sa bad route timeline for me to have it instead of Mamayuyu every week.

As a Kiyoshi fan I would trade it for Mamayuyu in a heartbeat lol.

We are kind of complaining about low sales but at the same time we are not so far removed from KnY completely destroying records of sales 😂

I mentioned these series not lasting longer, they are also selling a f*ton. Besides KnY, that got close to Naruto number with more than 3x less chapters (doing in 4 years what took 15). Shueisha had JJK selling more than Bleach with ~2.5x less (6 years for what took 15 as well).

(Ignoring the sales after it all ended, those durations I mentioned are a bit off)

Shoseki Top 500 (April 7)
10. Akane-banashi #21
18. Nue's Exorcist #14
283. Harukaze Mound #4
345. Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits #1
471. The Mage Next Door #1

Obs: Another drop followed that big recover, how can Hero Girl go from 54th to 345th in just a single day? That's some insane drop.

You forgot Harukaze in 98th, i edited already 👍

Btw, i knew something was off, such a terrible 2nd and 3rd day, now i know week 1 will have some unnusual week numbers for Akane and Nue and we will have to wait for week 2 to see better results.

Massive jump for every series on the 4th day, special mention to Nue back in the top 10 and Hero Girl just outside the top 50, higher than it debuted. Nice to see it not be a complete failure at least.

Akane-banashi backlog
6. Akane-banashi 21
96. Akane-banashi 1
134. Akane-banashi 2
254. Akane-banashi 3
369. Akane-banashi 4
491. Akane-banashi 20

Akane backlog is trending pretty weirdly, volume one is on the top 100, but only 6 volumes ranked. At the very least this means that the boost is doing something, hopefully more volumes show up.

Aight, you guys all hella convinced me. Once I catch up with either One Piece or Mao, I'll start on Mamayuyu. So probably within the next week or two.

You'd probably finish reading all of Mamayuyu before you finish reading half a One Piece arc

Hero Girl is still a flop but it woulda been nice if they let it straggle along to the next round like how Otr got to live multiple rounds...
Its ranking so bad on Shoseki its actually making Otr performance looks decent lol

I'm surprised with how is flopping in sales tho, it looked like it would at least pull a few thousands copies...

I've wanted to reread Mamayuyu for a while since it's the first series in the mag I read from chapter 1
I finally reread it today after all the talk and it held up way better than I expected it to
Such a good series cut short by circumstance yet it still had a better-executed ending than Chainsaw Man

He's coming back.

"No. 430: Character line art complete.

Please wait for an announcement from the Jump editorial department regarding the publication schedule for Chapter 420 and beyond.

My wife is giving me tons of encouragement to keep going."

On the contrary, I think MMYY had some interesting ideas, but didn’t know how to put it on paper. Hayashi is definitely someone I’m keeping an eye on, though. I just think he needs a good editor that can smooth out his writing process.

It's interesting that he doesn't mention the editorial announcement for ch411 but 420 and beyond, i think this time we will genuinely get 20 consecutive chapters since he's already close to finish the 420 to 430 batch too.

You literally said yourself the reason why (you think) he failed, he wouldn't be here independent of the batch, he flopped in the rankings from the start and got axed, that's it, i do agree that they could have given it a extra batch at least but it was just a matter of time until it would be axed because the series just didn't worked in the surveys.

Odd House of Roku was hilarious and I love the artists has a type for main character design, always cute and the shocked reaction face is amazing. Having him into science is A+ and I feel there's tons of emotion and heart potential here with the setup. Wonder if it will have action stuff like Yuuragi had woven into that.

I don’t know how people deny the fact that MamaYuyu would’ve lived if it came out today. Volume one sold as well as Shinobi and higher than Kiyoshi, and also had major stock issues that everything Nue and below didn’t have, given that reprints also made a decent splash on Shoseki, it might’ve grown more than Shinobi.

Otr can survive 34 chapters while selling 2.5K, heck Mage Next Door got a better ranking than MamaYuyu ever got while being a catastrophic bomb. Jump can’t even replace Kiyoshi which doesn’t even rank that well anymore and sells significantly worse than the rest of the roster. Even if MamaYuyu ranked bad it would’ve lived, 10K sellers are so rare for Jump these days ( how we’ve fallen lmao).

People can argue about how quality killed MamaYuyu, but it clearly had an audience. I think Kiyoshi’s a terrible series, but I also know it’s not going to be axed. Even if you thought MamaYuyu was a mess, it would’ve survived.
