Question:

What do you all its a manga that truly stuck to you the most growing up? You can choose one.

Am gonna surprise some folks and say the likes of outside one piece, the manga I was following to the best of my abilities while growing up as a teen was the likes of Assassination Classroom.

I thought the whole premise was so absurd at first until I actually got to read it for the very first time and it kinda made me the sort that really appreciates the weird stories that writers can come up with and how they evolve their premises as a whole.
I would absolutely say Naruto was a big part of my teen years. And while I saw it as an anime first, Shaman King was the first time I dived into the world of anime/manga.

If it's anime only, then Yu-Gi-Oh.
If it's manga specifically, then Sakamoto Days.
I started reading manga around at 15, and didn't get into reading Shōnen Jump weekly until that popped up immediately after finishing AssClass for the first time.

I didn't really "grow up" reading manga. I read my first manga chapter when I was in college back in 2014, and that was the first chapter of My Hero Academia. So MHA always holds a special place for me, even if I think it kind of fell off in a few places narratively later on. But I've always been a fan of superhero stories and loved the way the super strength of One For All was displayed in the first half of the series. As well as getting a different take on the Superman character template with All Might.

Anime-wise. One Piece. I got into anime a year before I started reading manga, and caught up on a bunch of classics. But One Piece really hooked me. Gotta love swashbuckling pirate adventures on the high seas.

Doraemon was the first manga i ever read. Dont know whose it was but i had a bunch of volumes already in my cabinet. My older cousin had lots of slamdunk manga that i read when younger me was staying over too.

Rather than manga, i think the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime, Medabots and Gundam Seed was what got me to sought after other anime and manga.

Didn't think too much about anime/manga before that. Never knew pokemon was an anime either.

Looks like Kinato's here to cover for Nue so we can reach the quota for harem shenanigans while they face against some meathead. I'll know for sure that it's over if they skip over the month long training arc. It could be an experimental trial to let it live one more batch to see if transitioning to a harem manga would be a turnaround, especially given that Hima-ten is putting down it's ending beats.

Under Doctor too actually. Two weeks of character pieces rather than battle action? Maybe trying to see if focusing on emotional storytelling and the doctor side of the concept would work better?

Thought this was a stronger issue than last week. Hero Destroyerz recovered from having its first meh chapter, though I liked Roku and Fire more, with the later really solidifying into my favorite of the batch.

1: Akane
2: WW
3: Hertz
4: Fire
5: Kiyoshi

I'm missing the rest of the girls in Nue. Feels like we haven't had a solid arc with the rest of them in a while. I like Natsuki and I'm enjoying exploding Gekka's character and conviction but the main cast feels kinda cramped now and the strength of the enemies is only increasing with each arc that it feels hard for them to step in as naturally as before. Hoping to see more Shiroha soon the most as she doesn't even have soul armor yet.

UD finally got the hint that we want real medical stuff included and combined in the story. UD should be edutainment like Dr. Stone was and could be a highly impactful series that actually changes lives. This chapter teaching FAST may actually save a life. Great chapter. Hopefully next week we get the start of a longer arc that is well structured and well done with actual medical stuff.

Issue 25:

1. Nue's Exorcist

Already 3 years! Times goes by fast, never expected this to show up out of nowhere and become one of my favorite ever manga, but here we are. Congratulations and here for another year!

As for the chapter itself, it's interesting how it's a full take on the concept of future. We already see it in the lead color page: "Protect the future", with Gakuro and Gekka's swords over each other. Here we have the two warriors that defend this future: Gakuro, a boy from this era, and Gekka, a ghost from the past. At least that's how she sees it.

It's a chapter focused on her interpretation of her role in the world. Gekka sees herself as a girl who found hope in the future with Nue and Soranaki, fought for it and *lost*. Now she's back, but in a physical sense; to Gekka she's merely a body, a sword, to help Gakuro protect *his* world, not hers. Dying now would be fine because she's back as an outsider, someone who should be the sacrifice instead of the current savior.

This contrasts with one of the main themes of this story "Win by saving everyone". To be a savior isn't to kill the most enemies, but to save the most people. While Gekka was saved in a physical sense in the previous arc, she never saw herself as part of the group (she dismissed the squad at the beginning of the arc). As she ends her attack on Kasha, it's time for Gakuro to show his beliefs; saving everyone means saving Gekka, to protect the future is to protect her, and to do that he needs to show how the new era Nue and Soranaki created is a future where she has freedom, without a set role, and the right to exist and make new bonds as well.

2. Roku

Few things are as essentially funny as jealous classmates, but even then the gag delivery was amazingly done. Great facial expressions, back and forth manzai style was on point and the absurd situations seem from the outside become even funnier. It also expands Roku's world to more than just the curses while being a sort of recap of everything so far. Laughed a lot, this is a good manga.

3. Himaten

Surprised, in a positive way, that the solution to a misunderstanding in a romcom is pretty much being clear and honest. Himari's maturity in the story doesn't come from her role as a CEO, but how she always steps back to think and pick the most sensible option at the moment. Seriously underrated as a Jump heroine.

4. Someone Hertz

Pretty much everyone agrees they're dating already. This chapter felt more romantic than usual even with Kurage in a dress walking in a flower field, didn't stop her from landing some great jokes as usual, but that gap moe was strong this time.

5. Hero Destroyerz

The fantasy world being drawn in a different way gives enough weight to how serious it is as a threat and the contrast with a dude fighting while driving a toilet like it's a horse makes for a battle that is both cool and funny. Sorachi's clashes are impactful, his Gintama-like attack barrages are still fantastic.

Under Doctor improved again and is really the best of its trio now that it's actually writing medical situations and giving them proper stories. Drawn of the Fire meanwhile isn't doing much for me, there's nothing bad about it, but already saw these same scenes before in better manga.

1. Hero Destroyerz
2. Roku
3. Hertz
4. Himaten
5. Roboco

Thoughts
I'm enjoying Hero Destroyerz a lot so far but I hope it introduces more characters soon; Gintama already had Otose, Kagura and Madao introduced by this point and HD only really has our two MCs and the talking bat as somewhat major characters

Roku had strong Agravity vibes this week, probably the funniest chapter so far in my opinion

Roboco-ified Doraemon is peak

Kiyoshi's current arc is honestly it's best, much more focused and interesting to read each week compared to how bloated and boring the Roth arc was

I will say, I don't think Under Doctor is ending, but I'm almost getting like YYH ending vibes from it? Where its just having low stakes chapters before it wraps up. Once again, I don't think thats what is happening, but has any axed jump series ever done this approach, instead of rushing towards a climactic battle? Closest in my recent memory would be Chojo I feel, but even then Chojo was mostly episodic.

Martial Master Asumi ended with Asumi fighting Some Guy™ before skipping past the entire tournament it was building up in the final chapter.

GGG also ended with a tournament that the MC didn't even directly participate in.
