#6. Any tweet, specially japanese, about news, update or some interesting thing about the magazine or series has to come with a text of what that tweet means and also be on topic, if not it's going to be either deleted or i will edit the post.
#7. Refrain from self advertising or advertising Youtubers videos in the comments.
#8. Constant fanart posts just for the sake of praising a favorite series is prohibited, this rule doesn't apply for official art by Jump artists posted on social media, they're fine to post.
#9. Don't discuss or hype chapter spoilers before Sunday release, only comment if is related to a series surviving status and do it only inside the spoiler tag.
#10. Regarding rule #9, an exception will be made for when we have new series, in this case, spoilers will be allowed only for the first 3 chapters of a new series for the users who are interested in knowing informations and details about the new series, these spoilers will obviously be kept under tags to protect anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled, so don't worry about it.

I don't understand the scalping situation with UD at all. No one is ever buying this for $20 much less for $100.

But they are buying, a copy of the Jump issue Under Doctor started just sold for 10k yen on Mercari yesterday

And many copies with the limited illustration cards are selling too

The same thing with all the stock market. Psychological effect for 90% of the value.

There was the same thing with tulips in the 17th. And all the other bubbles.

Bah, it's good for selling at least the first volumes of series, so it gives a better chance to create the buzz for these series and they will continue to sell if they really are what people want to read.

It's free marketing for Jump. I'm sure they're happy about it.

Manga are really products, and a lot of people are speculating with them...

Poor characters. I hope some readers love them for them, not for their market value...

Nah Kinato is pretty much in stock so the situation is much more natural, this is heavily happening with Under Doctor but you know, its working in favor of the series because everybody is talking about on Twitter in these last 24 hours, the posts from the official accounts are all with thousands of likes, the whole situation is making alot of people aware and curious about the series, is simply creating a free big advertisement for the series lol

Maybe it's beneficial in the short term, but in the long term there's always the risk that Under Doctor gets stuck with the label of "that scalped/astroturfed series no one actually reads". Shueisha should reprint it ASAP to nip that in the bud.

Tbh I don’t know how much the scalping thing is really a thing. I think sometimes when a series sells more than the ToC leads us to think it will, we look to other reasons for why. I’m sure there are some scalpers but I think the series legitimately just sold well

Saw a UD tweet with nearly 10k likes. This is about the yuan to yen conversion rate that readers hated. They change it in the volume ver.

Edit: He actually made it worse in the volume version.

If someone is to blame for any of this, two words: Logan Paul. The satanic version of any influencer, cause he is. Also kinda shocked some here did not think of him when this was happening. He did a whole video on preserving a mind edition of stuff like the weekly Shōnen jump issue where one piece debuted and whatnot. Would not surprise me if this is an effect of his or not, but would surprise me if it is.

I doubt a random youtuber can affect general Japanese manga consumers
scalpers are more into pokemon cards than random jump manga

I know Logan Paul and I'm aware of his recent obsession with Weekly Shonen Jump, but I don't get how UD managed to set this mob of monkeys off.
I mean, it’s not the first time Horikoshi has recommended a manga in its first volume (there are like five examples before UD: including Kagurabachi, Ichi the Witch, Asura’s Verdict, etc.)

But yesterday it seems there was a “meeting” in the "scalper lounge" and they decided that UD should become the new Kagurabachi (out of nothing, for a little Obi!)

Well, I read the first 3 chapters of Under Doctor given the recent happenings and I have to say… it’s not a great start lol. Not sure I’ll be continuing, Haiji is cool I guess but god, the dialogue is just so exposition heavy and clunky. Does it get better on that front?

I personally think it got better after this one kid join the gang. Even so, i thought chapter 1 was great.

So the scalping is really happening on WSJ manga space now? It is gonna be difficult to know if a manga is doing good or not based on volume 1 sales now. Let's just wait to see how stuff goes.

Again, I think people are overstating the effect of scalping here lol. Reminds me of KGB which had poor ToC rankings but its volume 1 sales were great and people got too into the speculation that it was cause Western fans were somehow buying it in bulk and juicing the numbers up. I get it though, I don't think anyone expected UD to do this good but the easier answer is probably the right one

I look up yesterday and there were 3 pages of UD vol 1 on mercari.
Now there's 5 while Kinato only has 1.

It improves chapter after chapter, overall the first 7 chapter are good but Tanimoto improves after it.
Let's just say he didn't do what Usui did (that he got stuck on the same mistake for nine months and only fixed it after finishing the story arc)

The saddest thing about it is that a shit ton of it are actually sold.
