You're talking about other manga publishers? If so the 2nd big one is JBC, they licensed Akane a while before anime got announced, and also Blue Box.

Hello, this is my first time posting on this forum. I have been following Jump for about 15 years. I've been reading this years new serializations and wanted somewhere to post my thoughts on them.

I neither love nor hate Under Doctor. It is an easy read and does nothing that offends me but also nothing to make me particularly invested in the characters or story. I don't think I have too much to add to the discussion on this one, as I agree with many other sentiments I have seen on this forum about how it needs to kick off a longer arc to really bring me in. I liked the Maxell chapters, which is the closest thing to a proper arc we have so far, so I think it still has potential. The one off chapters are not bad but it needs something more.

Kinato's Magic is one of my favorite new serializations of the year, so I am sad that it seems like it is likely next up on the chopping block, but unfortunately I don't think anything else is more likely to get cancelled than it at this point. I actually was not a fan of the first chapter, it was not bad but it was pretty meh to me. I think it should have worn the harem and fanservice aspects on its sleeve from the start rather than saving it for a few chapters in. Not saying that definitely would've saved it, but if there are people who were turned off by the first chapter like me and never came back, it may have kept them around. Also for anyone who did just want fantasy MHA(one of the main comments I saw on Jump+ for chapter 1 was people positively comparing Kinato to Deku) may have been turned off by the direction it ended up going in. I would still like to see it make a surprise comeback and will enjoy however much of it we have left.

Alien Headbutt probably deserved the axe but I didn't hate it. As a tokusatsu fan, I don't have a problem with some monster of the week content, and I liked the aliens designs, particularly the first one and the flying ones. To me, the biggest weakness was the supporting cast, the brothers should have been cut, they added nothing of worth to the series, and Mei-chan, the best part of the series, should've been introduced much earlier. I did like Inui, so I'm not sure how I would feel about her being the protagonist, but I do think them being the main duo from the very early on would've helped the series out a lot.

Roku's House of Oddities is my other favorite new serialization of the year. I was a fan of Agravity Boys so I was looking forward to this one and so far it has not disappointed. I like the humor and the characters. The chapter with the science club in particular reminded me of Agravity Boys which was quite nice. Sachiko and Altra are very cute and I already love them very much. I am wondering where the story will go, since the main goal is to resolve all of their curses, it would be quite sad if our main cast slowly disappeared one by one, so I am curious how that aspect will be handled. Even if that would technically be the "happy end" for the curses, it would be pretty sad for Roku to be left alone after they've basically become his new family. I am glad that this series seems to be performing well and hope it will stick around.

I am not reading Drawn to the Fire because it did not interest me and I hate Class 2-B: Hero Destroyerz.

Animal Signal is okay. I would best describe it as "mildly enjoyable". I am a fan of Tsutsui, so I was excited to see him back so soon, but my only experience with Robinson was the Senyuu anime back when it aired. Kokone is very cute, but the animal facts do nothing for me, and most of the humor has not really landed for me either. I wouldn't mind if it sticks around, but don't think I will be particularly sad to see it go either, unfortunately.

Hal Formula had my favorite first chapter of the year so far. In addition to the great color spread, it did a good job of setting up the character relationships, but what really won me over was the race at the end. I found that part of the chapter very exhilarating. The rest of the series has been good so far too. I speculate he is setting up Miharu possibly dying, or more likely suffering a career ending injury at some point in the future, leading into a time skip where Haruka becomes the protagonist. Not sure how I would feel about this turn of events, as I like Miharu as a character. I hope it can stick around long enough to find out.

I like Cannon Master. Is just a nice adventure battle manga with decent art, cool setting and cool monsters. I like the relationship and dynamic between the two protagonists. I like the aesthetic of everything. It hasn't totally gripped me enough to get me invested, but I have no complaints so far so I would also like to see it stick around and really grab me.

I’d be excited about ddc, but the writer attached to this is actually awful. She was a writer for that Netflix Witcher spinoff “blood origin”, showrunner and creator of the animated Netflix tomb raider show, and the writer of last year’s red Sonja.

sad to see blue box go! it was dragging a bit for me but I really liked these last few chapters and i'll be fond of it as a whole. a bit more and sakamoto goes too and then soon witch watch and we'll soon enter a whole new era of jump huh...

It's not really hard to see what might have happened, Sorachi name carrying hard in the first weeks until people get tired of it fast, i mean, that's pretty much what happened with the reception online, the manga became a laughing stock online for a while until the better chapters started to come.

First off, welcome to the forum!

Secondly, I pretty much agree with this. The last few chapters in particular, I've been wondering what was the point I enjoyed Under Doctor the most. And this post made me realise it was indeed the Maxell chapters. For me, whenever UD focussed on action stuff it got worse, and it was much better at handling the emotional stuff. But I remember when these chapters first came out I thought "yes, this is kinda what the manga should be like long term", it actually had a good balance of action and the more emotional stuff, and showed that the series COULD do some compelling action mixed in with the more personal story stuff, Hell, I thought Maxell would join the gang or at least be a recurring character, instead he just disappeared. And seemingly so did the type of arc that Maxell's was. Now it's swung mostly quite far away from action, and the one action arc we did have (the one in Cameroon) didn't really have anything personal behind it.

There's still time of course, the manga is still young and sells quite well (even with the scalping stuff), but I'd like to return more to that kinda stuff than what it's been doing recently. Although, shit, the stuff it's been doing lately might be what boosted its popularity, so maybe we're in the minority here lol.

When Kishimoto drew Naruto with more realistic features they were more eastern, so I personally hope for the opposite, I mean no one in real life has pink hair like Sakura, the hair and eye colors are just a way to help make the characters stand out and look distinctive.

I think over the years I've learned (and hopefully the actual people in charge of this stuff have also learned) that the best way to do live action anime is to embrace that it is in fact anime, and let the goofy stuff still be present. One Piece Live Action succeeded because it didn't shy away from the source material. Avatar the Last Airbender (yeah yeah, not an anime blah blah lol) is flopping because they tried to actively make changes from the source material to make it more "realistic" and make it more "palatable" for live action watchers who have maybe never seen the animated show or aren't into animated shows in general - and it SUCKS.

As long as Naruto's live action keeps some of the anime-isms about it and has a director and team who actually care for it, it can be decent. I thought it would be IMPOSSIBLE to do a good live action One Piece, and now they've done it, so there's no more excuses for other anime to live action adaptations lol. You have a template to follow - use it.

But I thought One Piece live action TV show was fun and Bleach live action movie was pretty solid. Fuck it lets ball and do Naruto too. I'm hoping for the best
