It's also worth keeping in mind that Kagurabachi has never been a consistently high ranking series, even in it's best ranking stretch around ch 70 to 90 it still frequently dropped into the bottom half. For whatever reason, it seems to be a series whose fans are buying the volumes but not reading the weekly magazine (or possibly pirating it weekly but buying the volumes for direct support? who knows).

Add that to how short the chapters have been as of late and it being a long stretch away from the MC and it's no surprise that people aren't voting for it much. I do think there's some manner of dropping its ranking due to missing deadlines, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was still legitimately bottom 5.

I wonder if next volume shows another drop of sales editorial is going to push Hokazono to be done faster with this flashback arc, at this point is pretty clear this Flashback arc is just not really loved by japanese fans (I read criticisms even here), so i don't think editorial will be glad with Hokazono wasting, god knows, how many months and months in this while sales drop and ToC placements keep in the mud.
Now i understand why Kakashi Gaiden (which we can clearly see Hokazono got inspired by) lasted only 6 chapters

Yeah this is a pretty obvious thing. Which is also what I think explains the sales drop.
If the flashback is disliked/less cared for, then those weekly readers stop buying the volumes. But they’re only a small chunk of the readerbase, so they don’t really move the needle. I’d say watch future volume sales, but by the time volume 3/4 of the flashback are on store shelves, the anime will be out and stuff will be murky. Cause like, maybe the volume readers will get sick of it too, lol.

Besides Kagurabachi situation, i don't know we be acting like a series having high volumes sales ever prevented a arc from having underwhelming reception in the ToC, Bleach sunk to the bottom with the Fullbring arc in 2011 while selling over 700k copies per volume and a long running anime broadcasting, and Bleach is just one example, and i'm not saying Kagurabachi will follow Bleach steps, just pointing out that it's not a alien concept on WSJ.

So Kagurabachi is safe for now?

Bleach was getting lower ranks in an era where established series like Nurarihyon could sell 200K and still be considered medium hits. It's not exactly the same as being outranked by 5k sellers and, yes, that might happen every once in a while in any Jump era. I'm not even saying this arc is as popular as the other ones, I'm just bringing up the obvious point that he struggles with serialization.

Bleach was still getting colors and covers at the time, so Kubo clearly wasn't struggling as much as Hokazono is now. Bleach's anime also ended in March 2012, so they probably knew for some time it wasn't getting renewed and it made more sense to promote series that had upcoming projects, post anime Reborn also had a lower ceiling and stopped getting covers even with good sales. It's not the case for Kagurabachi that is soon likely going to be boosted by its anime.

Bleach was the 3rd highest selling manga on Shonen Jump in 2011 when it started dropping to the bottom, it was also ranking lower than series that wouldn't even sell 50k or 100k, so i don't get your point in bringing NuraMago, it's the same situation as today, just different eras and level of sales lol

The entire point is that even a huge hit series going for 10 successful years, literally flagship of the magazine for years could still just drop in the rankings due to a underwhelming arc reception, so i dont see why any other series that sell like 1/3 of it would be protected from also having a arc where fans aren't very satisfied with it, while is pretty obvious that Hokazono is struggling with the weekly schedule the series has been pretty low for quite a while already during a arc that's been dragging for pretty long and getting more complaints while it keeps going on.

Kagurabachi sells 24x what Animal Signal or Hal Formula do, and that's low balling it. The gap between Bleach and the others wasn't as big, they also knew it already peaked with the anime ending while Kagurabachi will probably grow with the anime's debut. And again, I'm not saying fans may like the arc less, but ignoring the obvious issues with the submissions doesn't make sense to me. Kubo was healthy enough to do colors and covers during the Fullbringer arc and first years of the TYBW.

"Ignoring the obvious issues with submissions"

While i repeatedly keep mentiong the schedule problems too :noworry

Also you keep giving these examples of Animal Signal or Hal Formula as if Bleach wasn't getting bottom 3 placements at the time with the whole magazine above it lol

And we're just mentioning Bleach, same happened with hits like Souma, Reborn, Toriko, Beelzebub and others, many times ranking worse than even flops that got axed fast.

One thing I'll say about this whole situation is does it really matter if KGB is ranked last this issue? At the end of the day it's a flagship jump ip that makes them a ton of money with merch it's legit a stupid move if they axed it (which will never happen btw lol). Jump needs to keep it's current hit around especially when you consider how weak this lineup is imo.

Any manga can get axed though, magazine position trumps everything else, figure sales didn't save Toriko, jump festa buttons didn't save two on ice.

You're the one with the least right to speak; whenever Kagurabachi is in a low ranking, you're the first to say the manga is having problems.

I imagine that if you're considering the TOC above all else, you're also considering the 2B positions, since Sorachi's new manga is always at the bottom.

I think the issue with Kagurabachi ToC placement has to be that it has been ranking low since long ago and despite all the fanfare, it still got no anniversary cover and no color pages. All that makes us wonder about its real place on the magazine.

Yeah I'm surprised that it straight up got nothing. Nue and Roboco at least had color pages when their anniversaries were skipped.

I see a lot of talk about a Kagurabachi anniversary cover. I've said it before and I will continue to say it, this guys cannot currently produce a full manga chapter at this point and time, there is no way he can handle the added workload of a color page or Lead Cover Page. I know you guys hope and would love it but it's just not in the cards. Let the man heal up, it's like you guys want him to fail by having him do work he is not capable of doing.

I am going to Triple (maybe even Quadruple) down. Kagurabachi is no going to get a cover anytime soon. Let's shoor for a 19-page chapter first.

Under Doctor and Ura have both surprised me this week. I definitely do not agree with UD placement at 3 or that it is deserving of another CP so soon. Ura also doesn't feel deserving of a Color Page so early on. The fanservice is strong with that one tho and I am willing to say this one is not for me (like Somepne Hertz).
GreyKeith>>>>Ura with no color page. Jump is sick in the head.

Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 48 Cover: Sakamoto Days
This is one of the best Jump covers of the year!
Really curious about why Ichi is getting a new cover only 3 issues after its anniversary cover. I guess to fit it with GIGA launch which is also Ichi cover?
My 2 cents is that the duo of Ichi are more dependable and that is who they are giving this type of treatment to. I could also be the double interview thing, which is cool, but his (KGB Author's) ability to put out a completed chapter is certainly nerfing his cover chances.

-Kagurabachi freaking last. Between this and the issue of the anniversary, it really it's giving a very bizarre vibe about how it performs in Jump.
You really need to come at this from a different direction (perspective). It is pretty evident to me that his inability to finish his work is limiting his placement and position in the magazine, regardless of sales or what people think of the series as a whole. It doesn't matter how good you are at your job, if you are never there or do not meet deadlines the company will move on to someone else who can, even if the overall quality of their work is not the same. There is a lot to be said for availability, it is clear that WSJ cannot trust him on a weekly basis right now.
Kagurabachi not getting any sort of celebration in the magazine for a 3rd anniversary would be pretty unprecedented, at least since 2000, Jump always celebrate it even if just a normal color page, but for not do anything? That's crazy, just give it a "color page" for anniversary and publish the illustration revealed lol
What if Jump wanted to celebrate one of its best performing series but was unable to due to the Author? Just a thought, just putting it out there. This makes the most sense to me and it's weird that no one else is looking at it this way. Everyone is just blaming Jump when the author has as much or more blame in this.

Well then, feels safe to say it’ll just be Hal and Cannon Master getting axed next round?
Probably not Hal, not based on all the new rivals introduced in the last chapter. if I had to bet I would say Canon Master is the only one getting axed next round. Which is sad because the art is truly among the tops in the magazine.

Should they transfer him or get him doing an hiatus?

I agree. This year I have thought many times about how close the Kagurabachi situation has been actually from what happened to Ruri Dragon. Hokazono's workschedule is a disaster and is having many consecuences that affects his work.

The thing about an anniversary cover-lcp is that supposedly we have one drawing that could be portrayed as a lcp ready already (the one we saw in Jump Press, that Chihiro and Hakuri drawing that for an anniversary is plain as heck but it's what is available), so dunno what's going to happen with that.

I don't think a transfer is needed for now. Currently Hokazono is doing 15 pages consistently (and even 13 pages isn't something actually odd. Correct me if I'm wrong but I recall many big series having launched 13 pages chapters for a while), so there is no problem. At the same time, it's the most Hokazono can do with that awful schedule he has.
