Last year Nue and Bachi got ignored too, so I wouldn't think much about it.

The timing for its anime announcement will be weird though, either it gets announced a bit earlier than usual (like Nue got announced at 164-165 chapters), or it will be AFTER Festa.

I'm not sure that article about IPs brings up anything new at all. One Piece was always going to be milked after its end. Dragon Ball started being milked already back in the 90's. It's not like they were against it, there are piles of Jump games already back in the 1990's, Dragon Ball movies and GT existed...

The article ignores how the big decline in circulation happened before digital was even a thing and how digital subscriptions actually help these magazines stay profitable and the best place to release new popular works. A Jump mid tier is a big IP for the industry.

Bringing back old stuff to the magazine would do nothing for its circulation anyway. V-Jump has official sequels/prequels of 3 of Jump's biggest series ever and it gets outsold by Corocoro. Either Dragon Ball, Naruto and Dragon Quest aren't that popular or maybe people can accept that these readers are never coming back to the magazine format.

This supposed crisis is so overblown considering none of these magazines and their publishers ever mentioned struggling with it. One of the biggest success stories in anime this year is Even The Student Council Has Its Holes from Magazine, Frieren was pushed as a massive hit since its debut on Sunday, etc. The idea that these historical magazines are being replaced in relevance and japanese viewers would be happy with nothing new being made is just wrong.

Well the worry isn't that IPs are just now getting milked but that established IP revenue now makes more money for Jump than the actual publication does (that includes digital I think). So they could be more driven to milk popular series in the main magazine than they ever have before. I don't think everything is all bad and they will clearly keep making new series but hard not to worry a bit for the future when they're already bringing back a couple finished old series probably to the main magazine when in the past they would have serialized them on a spinoff magazine

This makes no sense business wise. They can keep doing their old IP anime, games and other stuff without these fossils taking up space for new series. There's enough proof that these series don't bring readers to the magazine, they'll sell basically the same as Jump+ works, meanwhile brand new WSJ series do sell more in average than brand new series in any other magazine.

Kagurabachi and Ichi sell much more than basically anything from other magazines that debuted since 2023.
Someone Hertz, Nue, Shinobi, Roku, etc are more popular than 95% of other new works from rival magazines, Jump+, other online services.

In terms of dominance, Weekly Shonen Jump still dwarfs everything for new manga. The general sales decline in the industry will never be reversed... Japan is already down 6M from their population peak!! The belief that a bunch of dinosaur manga can revert this is a mix of nostalgia and copium to ignore reality. It would be like if during the Naruto, One Piece and Bleach era that millennials put on a pedestal Jump started publishing Kinnikuman Nisei or Dragon Quest Avan to bring back the Golden Age 6 million readers. These people will never come back and actual readers want new series.

The problem is if the 'magazine' becomes less and less important to Jump going forward and the goal becomes to try and cultivate IPs that can become big money makers outside. Not an immediate worry, I'm not saying the whole magazine will be spinoffs of old series but the potential trend is a little worrying

Overall manga sales aren't falling; rather, the market share of the major magazines is shrinking. It's very similar to what happened with broadcast television in the US - in the past, if you watched a TV show, it was almost certainly on broadcast TV, whereas now... maybe 1 in 10? And yes, the average broadcast network show is still watched by more people than 95% of other shows.

Also, the Supernatural Battle Fantasy Club one-shot is doing numbers on Twitter right now.
Not Dog Eat Dog World level, but doing pretty well, a little over 425 thousand views, 4 thousand likes & 2 thousand re-tweets at the time I'm typing this:

Seems like there's some hate towards Ichi going on this week from Kagurabachi fans on Twitter frustrated by the dead last placements, calling the series a "Industry Plant" lol

At least for once its not Nue getting targeted 😅

Although I think Ichi should not be first place every single issue, I don't think they are wrong in placing it above Kagurabachi. I feel it will be bigger than Kagurabachi whenever an anime comes.

If that were the case, Ichi would have surpassed Kagurabachi's sales a long time ago.
