Well well .... Naruto better have 10.000 bunshin back at konoha training the whole time he's been running around otherwise a miracle power-up and be on par with the others is not very likely. Or he will always win against enemies by never giving up :s

i think " that jutsu" already started when he shoot the element dragon fireballs in the sky and just secondary at itachi turning the clouds dark for one big or many lightning strike/strikes. in my opinion thats why he said he prepared something and also dragon...

he doesn't have to use that jutsu expacially since it isnt for defense from what we know ... the demon gate jutsu thingy from oro if he knows it should be more then enough when it can stop a kyuubi blast. as far as other prediction goes i think itachi will be struck...
