I think this is another failsafe for Sasuke from Itachi. You can rule out Sasuke using genjutsu for the simple fact that Sasuke eye's were dilated right before he turned into crows. I think you can also rule out that it is really itachi because he already has his Mangekyou activated, Itachi...

Is it just me...or does the fact that Madara lost an arm and the unveiling of this "sharingarm" seem, well...rather...interesting?
