i'd say ging is an enhancer type. and being a smart tricky guy that he is, rather than just enhancing his physical and spiritual capability, he also enhances his mental capabilities.. no one says nen can't be use or infuse with the mind right..so, to picture this out.. imagine of a brain enhance...

true. But its more likely that kura will be able to do only the basic function of each category.. He has no mastery over the other categories, well, not yet. Maybe a couple more decade or so.

hatsu is user defined. so a base form or a basic hatsu is just any other nen princple put into action by a user to carry out his will.. thus, a concentration of nen on a fist either ko or kyu is a base hatsu if one chooses to.. changing the properties of the nen being used.. intensifying it...

i would like to agree to the one who guessed that ging needs to be hit by the ability in order for him to mimic it.. just knowing how the technique works basically wont help him do it i think.. he needs to feel the nen that was used with the ability. hence the composition of the nen, amount...
