Jump really fell off in the last couple of years. Series with 20k sales going on for 20 volumes likes UU/YF seem insane to me. Can't remember the last time a series survived long enough to be barely above "getting axed" level for multiple rounds. I would guess Enigma and even that got canned...

Don't get me wrong. I don't say my suggestions are the best. I just wanted to say that there are many and easy ways to give the protagonist a better reason to become a hero instead of just wanting to be a hero. Naruto/HxH/Bleach did both of them already and many more.

Its easy to give him a reason. Let the fire/ice guy become a villian (like sasuke) or someone getting kidnapped. Till now his resolve surrounds the naive idea of being a good guy and help people without a real reason. (tragic lost of a friend, something like that...)
