Nah. The whole mecha-look was just a nod to Elysium. Apparently, Kishimoto's a huge fan of the film (and perhaps, robots in general?) so he made that. I didn't know that until I read SaiyanIsland's article, but it does make sense. I saw the word 'Elysium' immediately when I first saw the cover.
