Tbh it does seem its setting up SD taking over Eli body. Mels OG power(so far is erasure), only person who can counter that is Elizabeths healing capabilities.

I felt Mel used his OG power because he was in purgatory so it did not matter, now once he is outside in the real world then yeah he cant use and will have to leave the real world.
