Mag Talk Weekly Shonen Jump (2023) - News and Discussion!

I do think the very beginning was pretty wordy in how it set up the characters and scenario. Having this very nuanced family drama situation with an elderly grandfather at the center of your martial arts series that also has 2 relatively equal main characters with seperate plotlines made for...

Nü Sexorcist being this successful is kinda silly but it makes me laugh in a good way, just like the series itself does with its plucky weird charm, lmao. Regularly one of the funniest reads in the magazine, even if not always for the right reasons. I'm way more miffed by Kill Blue, a series in...

Nü Sexorcist C is a mix of a low D quality and a B for "so bad it's good"-enjoyment. As dumb as it is, I kinda want it to succeed. Supa Smafo gets carried by the villain being super entertaining.

New series' placement in recent ToCs are pretty baffling to me. Tenmaku Cinema is an incredibly well executed series about filmmaking with a great cast, fantastic art and a lot of passion for the art plus a popular vetaran duo and it somehow doesn't catch on, apparently. I assume it's too...

Mag Talk Shonen Jump Plus - News and Discussion

Aragane no Ko / Diamond in the Rough is definitely ending within the next few months, depending on how many breaks it still takes. Story finished a big arc recently and indicated some final story in the recent 3~ or so chapter. It's a shame, it was a very solid, sometimes brilliant (haha..)...

AoT comparisons aside, GotW actually felt decently competent in the first 2 chapters. The entire world building and interest then completely fell apart in ch3 onwards and it all became complete nonsense combined with lackluster art and a very unoriginal battle-shonen structure. Says a lot that...

Mag Talk Weekly Shonen Jump (2023) - News and Discussion!

Super Smartphone had an amazingly over-the-top villain, though, which I will always remember. Outside of that it was a decent if a bit hit&miss mindgame crime-series with a terrible title. Earthchild I will remember for the awful protagonist and being one of the least deserving series of a WSJ...

Mag Talk Weekly Shonen Jump (2022) - News and Discussion

Is this some X-level sarcasm, because I think they look as bad as the series themselves were and I don't know a single person who likes them. Doron's are just a very standard show-off of the not-very-well-designed characters and Earthchild's look downright atrocious. I can kinda accept the...

Discussion Boku no Hero Academia: Vigilantes

Vigilantes had a better thematic understanding of heroism, a more likable protagonist (Deku's character really suffered in the last few arcs) and made AFO look much smarter and more interesting than the dull idiot he's been in the main series after his first appearance. Though as much as I love...

Dr Stone was mostly just Inagaki and Boichi acting out a playthrough of RAFT and then making it way over-the-top, lol. And I was honestly all here for it. Yes, it was a redundant chapter that added absolutely barely anything of worth to the overall story but I thought it was really fun, because...

Oda be like "Hey, while I'm gone, let that plucky Rakugo-series that I love warm my #1 spot, kay?". But in all seriousness, that's great news. Editorial realized they got a surefire success at this point and outside of the typical genre and themes too, so they are pushing it.

Gawd, that would be infuriating. I know that it could go on for that long but hopefully it will finally get the axe before that. Veteran bonus should end at some point and surviving Magu-chan was already bad enough. I also feel you are vastly underestimating Blue Box and Elusive Samurai while...

Nice work, but did you forget Blue Box or am I blind? I think it got 1 (WSJ22#19) and that's it. Pretty surprising with how huge it is.

Mag Talk Weekly Shonen Jump (2022) - News and Discussion

Wasn't big on it early on, the main character is not very likeable or interesting. However, that villain last week had a fantastic introduction which got me way more invested into the series again, and the police detective had a great chapter this week. So I am carefully optimistic right now.
