I wonder what would the reaction be if Konomi actually lets Ryoma play S2 and loses to Ryoga.

I like to give Konomi the benefit of doubt here that he won't switch. It would be a awful end to Tokugawa's story after so many years. It would be like having Ryoma replace Byodoin last minute and beat Volk without any fatigue or injury then continue on to the finals.

It depends on how much episode is plan and how much they intent to adapt. If it's 25 episodes like Season 1 probably they can go till Red Cave or something. But if they're planning to cover till Ziggy's revival then probably they will add anime originals in between.
