I just put out the last chapter. Series is done! Well, there's one gaiden chapter coming later this year, but officially it's over.

It's explained in one of the Gaiden volumes. In short, the 2nd generation head (who was a cool guy, like all the other heads that aren't Hideomi) died in an accident, and Hideomi (who was his 'friend') was quick to assume the title of 3rd generation head. [hr] Volume 27 chapter 106...

Bad management. The leader basically built an army of completely useless scrubs, with only Ryuushin being any good. Later generations (as well as the first one) are all made up of strong people.
