It was because Naruto was thinking that they could have easily been in each other's shoes. It was a mental representation of them on the opposite side of what they are now.

Yeah, because it didn't say whether he still was or not, but it is safe to say he appointed the mizukage like you said. All I know is that I hope Gaara doesn't die there. No real reason for that besides I like him as a character, and he's already killed off...

My question is this, is Madara still the kage of hidden mist? If so, he's going to be at the summit, and Sasuke won't even know it's him. Maybe a chance for madara to really test sasuke?
