Yeah I was thinking about that as well.. Their team hadn't even been assembled at the time.
Kishi probably just let that theme roll though to build suspense in the relationship b/w Sasuke and Naruto...

I guess that makes sense.. I think I would have liked to have seen Itachi say the person closest to you WITH MS or something to ensure Sasuke knew he meant HIM, but I don't think at that point...

I don't know thought, because at the VotE, Sasuke said he wasn't going to gain his power that way and that he'd find a different way.
