The inconsistencies in this manga are numerous. Just believe whatever makes the story better for you and hope Oku goes that way.

yeah on what basis are you saying this? It can be argued both ways, there have been moments where nishi showed signs of being a badass and showed signs of being pathetic. It's honestly up to Oku where he takes this,he has so many inconsistencies I actually wonder why I haven't raged yet. edit...

We already know that there are aliens that can predict the future from minus so imagine if the gantz ball purposely ignored the request to revive the old man knowing that Reika would ask for kurono 2 to be revived.
