I agree, in his previous fights he was way more angrer driven. Maybe the Kaido fight driving him to his max increased the influence of his fruit on his happiness unlocking it further.

So I get it now. When you eat the fruit you become a rubber human but as you grow in strength and ability the fact that it is obviously not just rubber becomes apparent. The further the gear the more unexplainable his rubber abilities become which has been confirmed by his enemies multiple times...
