The big thing about Luffy's Nika reveal is, only the government and Kaido witnessed it (and the latter didn't witness it fully). Kaido is now in some volcano, and the government won't want to publicise it by handing him an overly big bounty.

I think the idea here is that a lot of stuff is happening simultaneously, and Onigashima was certainly one of the most action-packed climax of any OP arc imo.

Having re-read the 1041-1050 stretch again, it flows together far better than expected. I suspect this arc is going to be more favorably seen in a few years time.

Idk I think it makes sense to give Kaido the most forgettable end to a villain. He doesn't get to go out like WB/Roger/Oden because he didn't lead that kind of great life. It also mirrors how Rocks went from the biggest baddest pirate around to a footnote in history.
