The thing to keep in mind with UD's position is that magazine issues get finished 2-3 weeks before release, so this issue was likely put together before UD's sales success.
To the KB and Saito thing, regardless of the quality of the manga at that point, I think it is just bad business to not keep the manga running until the anime starts airing to see what it does for the popularity. And even if Fujimaki had the idea to end it, I'm sure he could've been pursuaded to...
