Relax, this is just a manga. The author is just another human being. You sometimes get inconsistencies, it's not the end of the world. Just enjoy the rest of the series.

He also has (and had, all the way along) blindfolds as well. So I guess either "it doesnt want to listen to anyone, or they're just decorations. マゾ stuff, maybe :P
