#9. Don't discuss or hype chapter spoilers before Sunday release, only comment if is related to a series surviving status and do it only inside the spoiler tag.

Regarding rule #9, an exception will be made for when we have new series, in this case, spoilers will be allowed only for the first 3 chapters of a new series for the users who are interested in knowing informations and details about the new series, these spoilers will obviously be kept under tags to protect anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled, so don't worry about it.

[Discomusic]

1. Ichi the Witch: A weird, twisted trip along the Majik dimension of Desscaras. The concept was brilliant: the deeper you go, the more the "imprisoned" Majiks have to suffer, and there is also the risk of a rebellion that may happen sooner or later. In all of this, I am glad that the octopus has a chance at redemption.
2. Drawn to the Fire; I liked this chapter very much. It was played on the perspective of the losing team having to face an opponent that is too powerful: past traumas and reinforced friendships were there to provide full dignity to the trio, despite their inevitable defeat. It was very Haikyuu-esque and worthy of the color page.
3. Sakamoto Days: After a long time, a chapter worth reading. Something meaningful happens, the no-kill attitude of the first chapters prove to still be valid, and there is a protagonist switch that is likely temporary. I feel like my time was not wasted this week.
4. Akane-banashi: Good chapter but without actual played Rakugo in it, so I am not in awe. Still, my respect for both contestants raised greatly after this battle, and like the audience I wouldn't know who to pick as the winner. Issho will fail them both of course.
5. Witch Watch: Oh right, this series has a female protagonist and she is also inside the ship for the mission. The chapter is meant to be touching and it surely is, but in an arc full of awesome moments, this falls slightly below the average (but it would be highly above it on many other series).
6. Roku's house of oddities: This series is capable of delivering good comedy and nice wholesomeness in the same chapter, and that is a good sign. The good rankings also make me hope it has a good future ahead. I didn't read Agravity Boys, but it was full of dirty jokes, right? I'm glad this series can succeed even without those.
7. Blue Box: I used to be fond of epilogue chapters, but after so many of them I see the standard pattern too easily: the last chapter is for us to say goodbye to the characters we knew and loved for all this time. Liked that Nishida found a girlfriend, hoped for as much as a panel for a conclusion to the Kyo-Ayami situation. Thank you for everything Blue Box, you had good moments and questionable moments, but you could distinguish yourself from the mass of your genre.
8. Animal Signal: I think the idea of having little episodes of daily life and/or quick adventures can work with this series, as they help showing its strong point that is good comedy (the zookeeper and the solution to the equation are the winners of the week). That said, having a longer arc from time to time wouldn't be a bad idea.
9. Nue's Exorcist: Zenno is back, so good chapter by default: such wasted potential on him. Apart from that, it was a fair tension building chapter that served for the return of the big hero (the other one), and it fulfilled its purpose.
10. Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi: Happy 100th chapter! I for one am glad that it got this far. The Tsundere grandma is a great idea and it works for comedy; then there is the standard Kiyoshi chapter conclusion, with a serious tease for the next chapters. Every series does it, but this one does it more than anyone else.
11. Me and Roboco: The first pages were supposed to be funny but they were seriously scaring. Then it degenerates, but I don't really understand the request from Bondo to show "a picture with something that shouldn't be there" when all the pictures displayed followed the formula. The final gag was perfect.
12. One Piece: I don't really have much to say about these intermediate battle chapters. This one is probably more important than others because the protagonist is put in a new "Crocodile situation", and probably this time he will not come out on top (but he will in a later time).
13. Class 2-B: Heavy Destroyerz: Some gags worked, some gags didn't, but most importantly the dungeon is a labyrinth if someone didn't catch the news. I wonder how over powerful the power of opening and closing curtains will become during the series.
14. Hal Formula: The series is self aware that it is undergoing a training arc, lol. Sure it is hard to get engaged in a training where the exercise is to grip the steering wheel better, but the determination of the protagonist makes up for it a little.
15. Cannon Signal: The chapter was enjoyable but nothing special this time. We need new characters for sure, and female characters epecially, so it was a good idea to introduce a rival here. But the (mentor) protagonist was too clumsy at challenging her, although this is probably on purpose to highlight his insecurities.
16. Under Doctor: This series is so worldwide that even Greenland has its own family of renowed assassins. The series keeps needing, and forever will need, a proper long arc, and while not bad per se, this two chapter adventure is still not enough.
17. HunterXHunter: First chapter in this batch that was difficult for me to follow. It's a pity, because it also seems a pretty important chapter. Some royal heads are going to fall off soon, hopefully.
18. RuriDragon: It is full battle shonen now, not what I look for in this series but let's hope it is temporary and not the new norm.
19. Someone Hertz: Yet another awkward date, but this time the focus is on a side character looking at the scene and unvoluntarily tampering with it. So it was a nice change of the estabilished formula, but if you look deeper you can see that it is still the same damn formula. And it's a shame that they teased a prompt for my regular joke but they didn't reveal it.
20. Kinato's Magic: The Amazon Lily arc is over, and the villain ultimately disappointed me. We return to old characters (it's been a month since the protagonist left the guild in-universe!) and a new arc is being set up, but it will take time to care again.
21. Shinobi Undercover: This new mentor figure is a good chance for a character growth for Hibari and a reliable source of training arcs later in the series, but it is hard for me to rank this series high until this silly plotline is finally dropped.


Bonus: Like I did with the Elusive Samurai, and as a sort of new tradition that I want to keep, a look back to my rankings of issue #19, 2021, a.k.a. when the first chapter of Blue Box came out, and apparently a pretty good issue. I remember being disappointed by the twist of them living in the same house (only hinted in my review because I had a more strict no spoiler policy back then), but in the end everything turned out well.

Apart from one piece, might have to say the veteran manga had the weaker chapters, nothing too exciting about Deku facing one of the most unimaginative antagonists...again or Asta swinging his sword again (was cool) but still compared to the other chapters, hard to really stand out.

I think the battle will end next chapter. And remember, the dragon supressed its spurt for 12 years because it didn't want to battle.

Literally nobody has ever thought that upon travelling to or moving to Japan ever, white rice is the one of the most boring foods. Maybe if it was Thai Jasmine rice, but Japanese rice definitely not.

There definitely is an increased scope., and by a lot. Not saying it's because of him, though it's very likely part of it, but they literally didn't have issues like this with manga and I follow news and japanese social media for years.

Cards and games were already scalped before for years, but manga scalpers filling the Shoseki top 500 for several days, random manga selling thousands more than expected, japanese social media posting about thousands of manga discarded in the streets. That's new and not the usual.

You do not seem to understand that the wsj and the natsucomi scalping is due to the card bonuses. NOT the magazine or manga - those got thrown away. It is not due to logan - I have been collecting manga merch, cards and wsj bonuses for decades

And card bonuses are not the only one driving mass buying or manga and wsj magazines btw. The popularity polls also has the same effect for years. This is why wsj allows multiple duplicate votes (thinking popularity vote like a president election where 1 person = 1 vote is very wrong). This is why wsj only ever allow those votes using the slip included in physical wsj or manga. This is so that fans of the character mass buy the wjs/manga to mass vote their oshis. And it is a legit way to vote. Why? Because this is wsj way to do market research of which characters are mpst popular..... for merch productions. The ones who ranked high in the polls means people are willing to SPEND MONEY to vote them in = Oshi = people are willing to buy merch. And I can confirm this is mostly very accurate. Characters whose goods are more expensive that the others very often correlate with those who rank high in the polls. The ones who rank at bottom are those whose merch are undesirable, and whose merch are produced with sole purpose of diluting the blind goods poll. This is why companies like to do collabs with popular animes, especially the ones who are popular with merch collectors.

For example, goods at Roll Ice Cream company got sold out immediately within minutes BECAUSE people are after the JJK (Gojo, actually) merch for resale. The Gojo gpods thag came from the roll ice cream factory was resold for 10 times the price. It got to the point Roll ice cream company had to make announcement they gonna give customers jjk quiz to filter out non fans. Basically. It is not the manga, people are after the merch, and this is not due to Logan Paul. STOP OVERESTIMATING american culture influence on other country. and it is frankly insulting to basically crediting that guy for a whole ecosystem/sub culture that existed for years, and has literally NOT changed or gotten worse. All that guy did was basically just make you more aware it exist.

I am a gaijin, and I know many many Gaijin who collect limited merch for decades. There are people who work as professional live shopper to help people buy these limited goods from Japan for years. This has not changed after Logan

Just a heads up, since July 20 will be Marine day in Japan, a holiday, physical Shonen Jump will be released on July 21, Tuesday, instead of July 20 which is a monday, the digital version will still release on July 20 & Manga Plus chapters on July 19, the thing is that it means leaks will potentially be delayed this week by a day, there's still a chance we will still get the leaks, either by me or other source in the usual night maybe some hours later but nothing is sure right now!

Also, nothing 100% confirmed but there are some birds singing that there's a chance of something getting announced in this week issue #34 or next one...

In my favorite Katsudon restaurant, the rice is the literal best thing. I could eat ONLY the rice.

Your comment about rice being plain is very ignorant. It is like someone who complain that bread is plain and boring. For a lot of people, the bread is what make or break the food -there are a whole different kinds of bread with different pricings. This is just like how there are a whole many different kinds of Japanese rice with different pricings.

I don't know where did you get this from my posts? I understand they're going after the bonuses, not the magazine or volumes. This is my whole point for these last few weeks, to not take these recent numbers as reflecting actual readers interest.

I like idols and did oshikatsu before, lol. I understand it. What I'm saying is that this scale of manga scalping is unheard of and not just the usual thing of fans buying tons of goods to make itabags or altars. For some reason, the people ruining TCG are now trying to farm money with special manga editions and goods as well.

We know this for a fact because of what happened to Shoseki. But just giving an example, I got the Weekly Shonen Jump issue with the Pokémon collab easily just two days after it came out, easily available in a konbini, meanwhile the current issue had a bigger print than usual and still sold out instantly. The scale increased a lot in a short time, that said this specific case is also due to titanic scale of card game scalping.

Finally caught up with Nue, it was satisfying as hell seeing it go from a series I considered just "okay" when first trying to read it a few years ago to now probably being in my top 5 currently running series in the mag (without counting the new series or recently ended ones); Kawae's art and storywriting evolution is insane

On that note, I'm also finally caught up with every regularly scheduled series in the magazine (not including HxH or Ruri though I do plan on eventually reading those); it only took me 4 and a half years + waiting for Yozakura and Elusive Samurai to end

decent issue and we say goodbye to blue box — sakamoto soon and witch watch not far behind.......... losing a lot of established stuff is tough and no kagurabachi to tide me over for a few weeks, it is a bit rough for me atm. looking forward to it coming back and bleach returning., can't happen fast enough

Honestly yeah
The whole Uzuki conflict can be rushed through in 3 chapters + 1 epilogue chapter
While I would prefer Suzuki to take his time with the ending (cause its already kinda bad rn) it is possible to conclude the series with 4 chapters. I don't want that but it isn't impossible
Let's just hope that those birds with the Blue Box/Bleach thing are correct

Against my better judgement am still reading Sakamoto and I don't know about 3 chapters but there's definetly not a lot of gas left in the tank, either story wise or Suzuki wise.
