WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP THREAD RULES​

#5. Don't post news about series from other magazine or publishers in the WSJ thread, post in the series own thread, but it's fine if you're mentioning other series or magazine to express a opinion or reflection about Shonen Jump.
#6. Any tweet, specially japanese, about news, update or some interesting thing about the magazine or series has to come with a text of what that tweet means and also be on topic, if not it's going to be either deleted or i will edit the post.
#7. Refrain from self advertising or advertising Youtubers videos in the comments.
#8. Constant fanart posts just for the sake of praising a favorite series is prohibited, this rule doesn't apply for official art by Jump artists posted on social media, they're fine to post.
#9. Don't discuss or hype chapter spoilers before Sunday release, only comment if is related to a series surviving status and do it only inside the spoiler tag.
#10. Regarding rule #9, an exception will be made for when we have new series, in this case, spoilers will be allowed only for the first 3 chapters of a new series for the users who are interested in knowing informations and details about the new series, these spoilers will obviously be kept under tags to protect anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled, so don't worry about it.

Today, I did it. I just finished Undead Unluck. I remember when I started reading this series, it was when it was just started being published. I was a newbie at the time and didn’t know how manga worked or what to expect, except I wanted all of it and its batch mates to survive. Thankfully we did with Mashle, Guardian of the Witch, not so much. I was glad that even with the highs and lows, I stuck with it. I think my biggest challenge with the series was the pacing and how the world operated. Furthermore, another great challenge that I felt that Tozuka really worked hard on was displaying his action because when it got to the Spoil arc, that was when I had my challenges and felt it was hard to convey due to the massive amount of explosions. However what made me enjoy this series was how Tozuka displays character emotions and impact that makes it feel gut punching when it needs to convey sadness or happiness. I would say the closest to match that kind of emotion is One Piece. As for the end, even if it is a bit rushed, it feels on brand for Tozuka and I don’t want him to change that since the characters and energy feel on brand with him that it was the reason why he is my favorite artist in Jump. He really keeps you on your toes as we went through a lot of action stuff in the first half of the story. By the time the second half comes, it changes it up and doesn’t feel the same repetitive formula. Sure the second half with the recruitment phase could have dragged on long, but the different variety in those arcs helped keep it different and going to show that Tozuka could do it all. The romance side of things is funny as I could compare this to how I would imagine Nizuma from Bakuman would try to do. Although that gets a pass because again, its characters and emotion are its strongest points. I know his art has been criticized, but I would compare this to old school like Toriyama and Oda where it is similar to that, but it has a fresh coat of paint that makes it more modern and enjoyable. Still better than Shimabokuro’s art. I’m just saying.
Anyway, I’m glad that I finished it and am sad that it is over, but I will be glad to see Tozuka come back anytime whenever he is ready.

No. Last TOC's lower part was Hal Formula, Kagurabachi, Animal Signal, Cannon Master, 2-B, Drawn to the Fire, Under Doctor and Kinato. The only safe series Hal outranked was Kagurabachi, that has its own circumstances with lower page counts and probably late manuscripts. Everything else down there is new and is probably fighting against the axe.

It needs a color page now to be at least considered "as safe" as Animal Signal, meaning likely the whole batch gets one and it doesn't mean as much.

I do not want Kubo to return to Weekly Jump if we're getting a Bleach sequel, I want him to go to either Jump SQ or Jump Plus because we already have more than enough veterans & returnees coming back to the magazine this year & not enough rookies.

I agree with this take. We should have newcomers try and sell their stories.

I hadn't thought about it until you brought it up, but you're right, this year has been really returnee heavy. Last year 10 of 13 new series were by newbies, and counting the coming batch this year it's 3 out of 11 which is kind of crazy.

That was just one rank. Besides, we can’t just assume something after just one rank. Even at that, it was 4 or 5th to last.

I'm hoping that the next batch is more rookie-centric (at least 2-3 for a 3-4 batch, or half for a 2 batch), because if it isn't and it's yet another all-returnee batch...
I do not care if it's all successful veterans or axed authors, even if there's one that I want to see get a second chance, if we get yet another batch like that, I want every series in that batch to fail because I am so fatigued from seeing nothing but returnees when there are so many rookies that I wanna see get serialized, which includes the GFC winners that we've been waiting for about 4 years now...

Also, I’m in agreement with bringing in more rookies. But mostly rookies and failed artists who do have potential, since they are the ones I am willing to give a fair chance to. It’s just having this conversation, and looking back at when Torishima came to the EiC position, he got rid of the old guard. Ones that mainly that came from the 70’s and 80’s. Although for some in the 80’s there were a few exceptions to the rule.

So if we are going to talk about veterans to not return, just some of them from the 1990’s and 2000’s. That would be fair.

I'm reading David-kun to familiarize myself with Kuroki before Ura starts and it's fuckin hilarious
yet I can't help but wonder how it even made it past editorial with how niche its subject matter can get (or for that matter, how excessive it can be sometimes)

I think this is more of a "inaccurate" take than hot, because there's been literally only 2 veteran series so far in 2026, Animal Signal & Class 2B, the rest are all newbies, it doesn't matter if its their 2nd or 3rd tentative, they're not veterans, even Shun Numa its like half veteran and Kuroki is just his 2nd tentative, Natsuki Hokami isn't really someone with a name just for doing a safe Demon Slayer SD on Saikyo Jump too. We also had 3 "Rookies" so far.

2025 was full of "Rookies" with their 1st series, and it was one of the worst years for Jump ever, a disaster saved only by Someone Hertz while 2026 has been significantly superior, so i honestly don't see the difference if is someone 1st, 2nd or 3rd tentative, it's all newbies, the manga only needs to be interesting. Same for actual veterans (the interesting manga part).

Is it? They need to find a 2nd hit to beat 2025 and so far they have nothing else doing well out of the gate. And even then, it's more likely that Roku won't perform as strongly as Hertz did.

I agree about veteran = hit author, but I still stand by the Bleach rumor being the most disappointing direction for the magazine's future. They can just have that on Jump+, SQ, V-Jump, etc.

Insane rise by cannon master; I like the author but I don't think this series is the best he can do. I'd like to see him come back with something better. 2B is dead in the water; I predict the first volume will sell well enough that people are in denial about its survival which sucks because I like it. Concerning for HAL it didn't get a color page but good news for the value of Animal Signal's color page.

It sucks that we can't get any of the battle or sports series off the ground. Feels like all the hits are gags and romance these days.

I have to imagine that with no color page, Hal Formula drops below Under Doctor and 2-B. 2-B will have at least ok volume 1 sales and Under Doctor has a fringe base. Canon Master probably drops below them too, you guys have to remember Hal was middle last week and look where it is now. So I think we might have Hal and Canon Master pad out the bottom which combined with Hunter x Hunter leaving and Sakamoto going at some point, might mean AniSig, 2-B, and UD stick around for a bit. This will probably be where the competition lies, Animal Signal has to not flop on volume one, UD has to either stabalize or grow with volume 3, and 2-B has to not completely collapse in general.

Hal and Canon Master are worse than all of these series anyway so it makes sense. It'd be nice if all of 2-B, AniSig, and UD make it out but at least one (probably more) will get cut.
