Since I haven’t given thoughts on it yet, Ura Files is okay so far. Not super keen on it yet, but I can tell the artist knows how to cook. I think I will need to appreciate this for the comedy moreso than any romantical teases, since it is coming from Chojo’s author after all.
Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself, but this choice to play with languages, magic and keys gives the author endless creative freedom. And considering that the world-building is incredible (just like in Cannon Master), it really feels like it could work great as a long-running series.
(To pick up on Shinuki’s "joke" when mangaplus crashed, we might actually have a fourth September series that survives for more than a year in a row)
I know Hal Formula it's not ranking very well but what was the last sport new series to get this kind of "motion" this early? I mean getting official endorsements from famous athletes and collaborating with popular Youtube channels, Hal Formula isn't going to be big even if were a masterpiece due to the niche theme for a shounen magazine but i feel like it could pull a "less popular" Hinomaru Zumo and have a small but loyal fanbase, also it wouldn't kill if Jump tries with Hal Formula harder than usual since the sports curse is getting ridiculous at this point...
Haven't posted in a month so here's a long overview on my thoughts:
This Hunter x Hunter batch has been excellent (duh), appreciate that Togashi stuck entirely with the Special Martial Law storyline and all the fallout there on Tier 1. In particular, this last chapter was up there as some of Hunter x Hunter's best artwork in this whole arc, and in my view this arc is actually Togashi's art at its healthiest and most detailed, cutting no corners. Lush backgrounds and details this week (and last - so many Hisoka hints in that final page), and having this little showdown-that-wasn't between Hisoka and Tserri was soooo delicious. Ugh. Part of me is convinced they'll never actually meet again now and this was their only chance for their paths to overlap, but what a fun confrontation. This is also probably most at ease I've felt about a hiatus announcement as well so it's all good vibes. Depending on how many chapters Jump wants to store up, I'm expecting this next 10-chapter batch to return in early in 2026.
As for my usual winners: this Ichi the Witch arc is so much fun so far, honestly smiling every week at the balance of the actions and goofiness. recent Desscaras focus has been as good as it always is. Kagurabachi nailed it with an emotional gut punch last week but this one's was a little too cluttered and Gege-esque for my liking, if I'm honest. This current match in Akane-banashi has been a good spotlight on a character I've never liked and now I kind of get him and feel as sorry for him as Akane herself does, so success! The next month or so of chapters with Issho finally (finally!!!) performing in entirety is going to be something special, I can feel it. And no Hunter x Hunter either to content for that top spot.
Also, got to shoutout just how stupid good Roku's House of Oddities has been. It's gone from my least favourite first chapter of all the new serialisations this year to my favourite new series of 2026 (very close with Cannon Master, mind you). It's been easily in my top 5 every week lately amongst my old reliables, beating some of them out. The club boys visiting the house was hilarious and cements to me that their recurrence is essential and they're probably the most successful for me in terms of laughs-per-minute. And then last week the series suddenly turns into Bleach with a Soul Society (Ministry of Spiritual Harmony) and Byakuya/Renji (Konoe/Kariya - Captain and Vice Captain of the of the Genbu Strike Force, one of the Twelve Heavenly Generals) introduced in a way that embraces these battle shonen tropes but shapes them around a gag set-up. Honestly, love the clash of tone there and the expanding world building, including the mention of this being one of the four Class A cases as well. In that one chapter the series just levelled up from a house comedy to a potentially massive cast beyond this initial scope if Nakamura so decides, which is suuuuper exciting. And this week with the janitor/student stuff - so stupid, so funny, loved it. I've gone from being totally unconvinced of the main cast's defining traits to just being happy to spend time with these characters each week where it's now genuinely one of the series I crave to read most each issue.
Both the new series are early winners for me too. The Ura Files is basically BokuYaba, but that's fine because that's a good romcom formula to be inspired by, and throw in the monster girl and assassin tropes as well for good measure. In one sense it seems like an especially calculated concoction of ideas made to be popular, and if I was to bet I have no reason to doubt that it won't be. Based on these first two chapters, I'm having a good time with it, so there's nothing for me to me jaded about its premise. The double spread of them walking home together in the first chapter is what sold me on their dynamic as well, beyond just how funny it is already. Good stuff.
Graykeith: Translator Daemonica - first of all, it's legitimately a great name: the 'Keith' did throw me off but if it's technically more correct than 'Keys' they so be it; secondly, the Translator Daemonica just sounds cool as fuck, and a smart play on Encyclopædia Britannica which, again, feels very correct for what the series is about. I'm really glad this is getting serialised. It was one of my picks at the start of the year (fourth correct this year, please Saito give me another one by EOY). I re-read the one-shot after this first chapter and it is the exact same premise to kick it off, but this first chapter was actually so much better paced, drawn, and breathed more life into what I thought was already a good starting point, and yeah, loved it even more second time around. I've seen series with future potential like this in the past and been burned many a times, but I'll remain hopeful that it continues to be this impressive and catches on.
On the two that ended: Kinato's Magic was one I had hope for early on but along the way it lost that sense of humour and it went far too obvious in the direction of Kinato's powers imitating Deku's. In general it really felt like the quests weren't quite clicking in the way the first few chapters were. An improvement from Shadow Eliminators for sure, though in parts I could see it eking towards that nonsense direction in the second half of each of its arcs. That final chapter was a cute sendoff though, I liked it. Drawn to the Fire was flop central for me. I actually thought it would stick around for another batch so bless you Saito for not making me push through it for another couple months. The blatant tracing of Ahiru no Sora that's come out is just the cherry on top of how lame this was, with a final chapter that focused on entirely new characters and proved how lifeless this was when it comes to building a cast of enticing characters for a sport team to cheer for. Also noteworthy that both these cancelled series also had the female lead character be shelved for 90% of the story when her inclusion usually made for the best part of the series. Doron Dororon nachos being reheated, I see.
Of the series that are likely next on the potential chopping block I'd probably say it feels like:
Probably safe until the end of the year: Animal Signal, Hal Formula
Possibly cancelled by the end of the year: Under Doctor, Cannon Master, Class 2-B: The Hero Destroyerz
I still think Sakamoto Days will end this year, by the final batch of 2026, and WITCH WATCH maybe in early 2027 (this latest chapter was actually kind of whack, what a simper of a fight to end this arc on), but if either of them goes soon then maybe these struggle buses will keep going. Cannon Master especially feels like it's shifted in a way that's aware of its inevitable end, but as someone whose been a fan since early on and championing it to succeed despite what reality dictates, I do really still think the past two chapters in particular have been screaming with passion a way that doesn't read as pure nonsense trying to wrap itself up but instead like a final desperation plea to survive that comes through in the art and where the story is now going. The Ur focus especially has shifted in a way that, while swift, is making his inclusion all the more vital and now I'm flirting with the possibility of this going for a Gurren Lagann direction with the two leads. Who knows. That's what this chapter made me think, which would be an even more dramatic shift than the last few chapters. Whatever the case, Reiya Machida has done a fab job with the series, imo. I hope that it gets as much time to live to continue its course. Animal Signal has been really funny these past two weeks, too. Hal Formula also showed a glimmer of something good again once it took the characters off the track.

1. Ichi the Witch: I don't know if that was an aspect of the series that has been criticized in the past but, well, Desscaras just addressed it. And during this, Ichi keeps being the most "I don't care about anything" protagonist since early Luffy. And during all of this, Hakari is...well, I can't say he's ignored, but it feels like it. So many cliches are falling down in this series. 2. Akane-banashi: Waiting for the moment when Zensho realizes that the only person who can understand him is Akane. But his time is up for now, better return to an even sadder character, that lost some of his aura with today's reveal. His historical rival lost some of his own, too. 3. HunterXHunter: Probably, the best chapter of this batch. For once, it was probably the shortest to read. Then it was epical, with the encounter of two characters that don't have any business with each other, with one that got a good scare but managed to escape anyway. See you next time, even though by the time it comes back I will have forgotten all about it. 4. Graykeith: Translator Daemonica: It doesn't happen so often that a first chapter flies by so quick. I was very captured from the setting, I approached it wondering how a series about a language translator can get interesting, and I got answered right on the first adventure. This is a fantasy setting with a twist and a main character with an original personality, so I think it can work in Jump. As for any resemblance to other series, I have a couple ideas in mind, but I'll keep them for myself. 5. Kagurabachi: We are back to politics and with the cameo of some famous characters from present time arcs, the chapter does its job well. I liked that he wanted to act all careless as usual and they forced him to put safety first. Did he complete the mandatory security at work online course? 6. One Piece: Finally Usopp got his epic moment on the arc we all expected to be about him! He could have done more, but surely he was in character and surely he was right. The rest is just another punch, I wonder if we'll get an epic speech per punch and a punch per chapter. 7. Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi: Nice to see Akari's new power to be put to a good use. The mistery intensifies, but the identity of the true culprit is so blatant now that the swerve would be if he was innocent all along. 8. Hal Formula: I'll be damned, I enjoyed this race overall. There was great tension, the protagonist is crazy, and maybe there is the influence of my parents who don't miss a F1 race every Sunday. I'll cautiously root for the series to continue like this and win my heart one race at a time. 9. Cannon Master: Probably it is moving as if it could end in two more chapters, but I enjoyed it here. It was a return to origins, with the relationship between master and mentor claiming the front row again. This is typical of a series that is close to the end, but I enjoyed the execution at least. 10. RuriDragon: I am more of a dog person, but I liked the realism of them having a conversation about dragons and at the same time having to shoo away some hungry cat. The series is very immersive with its slice of life yet fantasy setting. 11. Witch Watch: The first half of the chapter without any line of dialogue is a thank you fron Shinohara to the translators that had to put up with all the blabbery about Denim jeans or from the doujin fangirls. The second half, and the conclusion of this long arc, is disappointing: he gave up on Nico's Talk no Jutsu too easily. Overall the Bone Crisis arc has been good, but not great. 12. Roku's House of Oddities: A semi serious chapter that shows that this series is not ready for full serious arcs yet. At least not with these characters: the five curses haven't starred so maybe they would have provided a different gravitas. Anyway, good that the undercover mission lasted for all but one chapter, we already have plenty of them in Jump series. Case in point: 13. The Ura Files: This chapter is pretty good, it keeps the positives of the first one and hides the negatives in a corner. Someone said that Numa's comedy was evident since chapter 1, in my case I found more evidence in this chapter and it seems strange to me to not read this with his characteristic art. Nonetheless, the main couple chemistry can work, and a sense of identity of the series is forming. Now for introducing some side cast, that can be a weak point in Numa's writing. 14. Me and Roboco: Just another chapter with a particular concept beaten to...wait what the hell is happening to Roboco? Some transformations are creepy, like the chrysalis of pure muscle...and is talking to your muscles a MAD reference? Oh, and they skipped leg day anyway. 15. Shinobi Undercover: I am still pissed off for the aces stealing the spotlight of Squad 9 and especially Umineko, but the character introduced today was entertaining enough to make me forget about it. I have met quite a number of lawful characters in my reader history (although most authors prefer to write chaotics), but this was one of the most remarkable. I'll even go out and say that when she will reappear 50 chapters from now, I will recognize her. 16. Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz: The chapter has been nice but forgettable. The amnesia gag was good, because the amnesia plot is so overused by now that it has still chance to be good only if used for gags. It seems to me that the series is more interested in expanding its world rather than close for a sudden end. 17. Under Doctor: Or Under Surgeon, because technically they are not the same thing. I liked that the french doctor was actually good for real and also smart, but down to the last page I was disappointed because, in the end, everything was going smoothly and the arc was for naught. At least the chapter ended with some real drama. 18. Nue's Exorcist: I get the plan now, we are going to see all the powered up girls one transformation at a time. I don't know how they will do with all those fighters stuck in the basement, but it's not my job to figure it out. And by the way, what a convenient hole in the tree! 19. Sakamoto Days: The villain is supposed to pass as this super complex character, but Suzuki isn't that good at making complex characters, so now this showdown of personalities feels cringe. Meanwhile, the new protagonist continues to steal the spot even to a brink-of-death miracolously recovering Sakamoto. 20. Someone Hertz: While I enjoyed a lot the last chapter, this week seems to keep going the same route but...it's already more of the same. I know, I grow tired too fast, but I need something original everytime to keep being invested in this series, because the characters alone won't do it. "What is a school festival with too many rules like?" "The perfect setup for the introduction of the stereotypical disciplinary committee, with its stern president and other quirky members". 21. Animal Signal: Well, I suppose all kinds of fanbases are satisfied now. I wanted to discuss about how we have yet to meet another character without an Anima besides Tsubasa, but this everytime sometimes that obfuscates that argument happens. This series doesn't give me time to breathe.

I thought the first chapter of Graykeith was pretty good. Glad I waited a bit to write out my thoughts because I like it more and more the more I sit on it. Graykeith himself is a pretty fun protagonist, and Kisaragi is cute and should be a good foil to him. (Jump has had a lot of great female characters recently.) I'm looking forward to seeing their relationship develop, I hope they don't immediately resolve the conflict of him not accepting her as his apprentice in chapter 2, would be nice to see that develop over time. The world is interesting, and does a good job of synergizing with the themes of the series, as well as little details like the bats having their language's script in the background of their textboxes. The emotional beats were also pretty well done. This isn't a complaint per say, but I'm just not sure if this feels like a series that will be able to find success at this moment. I hope I'm wrong!
The second chapter of Ura was also good. As this is his first real attempt at a romcom, I was wondering if Numa would tone down his usual comedy a bit to focus more on the romance aspect, especially with him taking clear influence from some other currently popular romcoms, but glad to say that is not the case. Ura is just too cute!
While it is sad to see Hunter x Hunter go back on hiatus, this was definitely a way better chapter to leave off on than last time. Of course I want to see the continuation of Tserri's shenanigans, but its nothing compared to going on hiatus right as Benjamin declares martial law. Overall, I did enjoy this batch, but I thought the start was a bit slow. Of course the Wobble reveal, and the tease of Gon and Killua's return was great, but I just wanted to get back to the martial law plot line as soon as possible. Everything once we did was great. The encounter between Hisoka and Tserreidnich was a pretty fun scene, I wonder what the implications of Hisoka seemingly noticing the real Tserri but not acting on it is. I do hope this is not just a fun one-off to show that his technique isn't perfect yet, and we get a proper encounter between the two in the future. Also hope we don't have to wait too long for the next batch since Togashi already has most of it done.
I truly doubt the people who read the magazine cares about sales that much. They only care about the voting system and such. That was the reason behind Astro Royale being cancelled on 50 chapters even as it sold like 17K on its last volume before the axe. It did poorly on ToC and its sales were dropping.
Like you said sales were dropping on top of that. They expect more out of vets too than a newbie like under doctor author. Yeah the sales dropped from 1 to 2 for under doctor but that's only because of all the scalping inflating vol 1 numbers. They're giving heavy reprints for both volumes so there's an obvious demand for it and it's not out of a loyal fanbase from prior works(Tokyo Revengers and Gintama) like astro royale or 2-b got. I can see UD growing its fanbase and skirting the line between life and death in the toc with hal and cannon master not getting much fanfare and other long running series leaving the mag.

Genuinely surprised how much I enjoyed Graykeys (or graykeith or whatever they want me calling it), it's a little generic but executed very well (English name kinda sucks though)

I get your point, I felt the same way about the first couple chapters of this batch. It is true that I don't think Togashi is writing the series to go at a significantly faster pace than he would if he was actually doing it weekly, which can be good or bad depending on your point of view. Especially if you're someone worried we'll never see the ending.

Start of Week 2! Not gonna lie, Class 2B is holding better than expected so far, i guess that's Sorachi name power for you, Roku also went above Hima again in the 4th day so i think there's potential to have longer legs than Hima and eventually outsold this volume.
Kiyoshi only had bad placements from ch 11 to ch 19, then it got a colour page and has been consistently jumping around the middle ever since.
Under Doctor on the other hand has been mostly dead since ch 15 except for 1 freak high ranking. It's in a very different situation. Sure it's possibly that it'll suddenly rise, any series could, but what's going to make it rise? Kiyoshi climbed out the bottom because it shifted to an action focus when it started ranking badly which proved a lot more popular, but Under Doctor has been doing the same thing since ch 15 and the rankings if anything have fallen except for that one high placement and like one other chapter barely out the bottom 5.
Kiyoshi ranked better, sold better and always had consistent sales. Under Doctor has bad TOC rankings since the beginning and has less actual buyers than Kiyoshi, who is basically Jump's sales gatekeeper.
It's so weird to see people acting like Kiyoshi was never in danger when the author literally admitted it was on the verge of being cancelled. Some narratives die hard, I guess.
