Offtopic, but I find it hilarious how the smug battle shonen elitist "once the anime is out, it will be a global phenomenon for sure! With sales like jjk!" People constantly get their karma recently.

It happens with CSM (prior to S1 anime), it happens with sakaday.

They did not get as big as boost as they fantasized (NOT saying there was no boost, mind you). and for sakadays especially, the anime was disappointing for many.

Hearing them huffing and puffing their chests while belittling other shows were annoying. And they got the karma when their dreams were crushed.

Now, I wonder if same gonna happen to Kagurabachi. It will get boost, but i doubt it will ever be as big as jjk. Probably just gonna add up to 100k sales a month is my prediction (50% increase is still a lot tbh)

Likely not but you never know. Feels like there is a boost like that every so often. Attack on Titan did in the early 2010s

The only work i can see getting insane boost to near 1 mil is ruri

Even so, i still think it is more likely to not happen (ruri will get boost but not that crazy)

I don't think so either but 1 million now isn't the same as it was even 5 years ago. The industry's switch to digital has happened and is happening very fast. Even One Piece doesn't sell a million copies in a month anymore

I think a lot of people are waking up to the fact that getting anything close to JJK numbers are a fantasy, but I will say, it is nice schadenfreude. Not even in a "I hate this series" way, but more in a "you guys are annoying and deserved to lose" way.

This is why next year, Nue will be remembered as a phenomenon that saved shonen jump, while the bachi anime will just be another 8/10 that gets forgotten.
(Just like how my beloved UU was defeated by the Mashle menace, lol).

Mashle was always a better seller than Undead Unluck

True, but also, Mashle's anime was really the only series from that whole period that blew up. I more meant that. (Late 2019/Early 2020s). Hell, you could even say that it had the boost that people wanted sakamoto days to have.

Mashle became 100k+ seller on Oricon Top 50 by volume 5 while Undead peaked at 30k copies.

Yeah but only blew up because of the Creepy Nuts S2 Opening, so it was pure lucky, nothing related to potential or animation quality.

Yeah and my point is that for all we know, bachi could be a perfectly fine 8/10 series that doesn't really move the needle, while Nue goes viral for some random reason and ends up being the one people remember, lol.

That song is still a banger too. Insanely catchy. But a massively popular OP has always had the potential to blow things up. Oshi no Ko also got an extra boost because of Idol. Can't really predict those ahead of time though

But here I am, doing just that. You gotta just trust the will of the universe.

Personally i just don't see a scenario where the Kagurabachi anime doesn't give it, at the very least, a decent boost in sales but becoming anything even close to JJK i just don't see it happening, unless the production is able to pull a Demon Slayer Episode 19 kind of moment but Kagurabachi isnt this kind of work either, so yeah, i think 500k ~ 600k copies, only physical, is the highest it can get.

In the end i think what it will hurt Kagurabachi the most is Hokazono constant absences and reduced pages, i don't know what it might happen once the anime become super popular worldwide and Hokazono gets even more busy with the franchise related stuff where he will have to take decisions and supervise things, how that will affect the serialization on WSJ that is already rocky right now.

Yeah I can see that happening. If anything, I think Hokazono should take a break after this flashback arc and let the premiere of the anime do the heavy lifting. After I think the same amount of time, kind of like what Tabata took in between the Spade Kingdom arc and the final arc, Hokazono should return with part two. But fully energized and planned to launch now that the anime gave the series a second life and having a plan going into part 2.

Why do you think so about Ruri Dragon getting near 1 million?

I feel like some overestimate Ruri way too much lol

You can pour the production level of a studio like KyoAni over it but the source still just mostly a lighthearted SoL shounen series and these never reach huge level of sales.

I can't and don't want to predict the future that far ahead, but if Vol. 3 performs just as well (even 10k would be fine), we might have a second Kiyoshi (but without the haters)

Spy x Family

And Spy x Family did not even reach the amount of viral that ruri got initially
