Is Pierrot just stuck with old IPs?

Like, is Black Clover the only """""new""""" gen ip from jump that they got a hold on. There was a point where i legitimately thought that they would get kagurabachi since they always manage to snap atleast 1 big IP from jump and they just didnt get nothing this gen.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Also, not a single new WSJ titles has gotten a well known studio. Every single one is either unproven or a sub studio of well known studio.

J+ are the ones getting stuff from toei, bones, mappa, ig, madhouse, a1 etc. Basically the ones the average norm knows about.

Edit: I guess Ruri is literally the only one.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

Kota Kawae comment on Jump Press event for Nue's Exorcist Anime Adaptation:

"Thanks to everyone's overwhelmingly passionate support, it has been decided that our work will be adapted into an anime!

Thank you so much for cheering us on, cooperating, and supporting us to the point where we could be given such a wonderful opportunity...!!

I was saved by Director Hashimoto’s anime Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka? (Is the Order a Rabbit?) back when I was an office worker. And now, in my current chapter as a manga artist, I am deeply moved that he is reaching out his hand to help me once again as the anime director for Nue!

Additionally, Mr. Mochizuki, who is serving as the chief animation director, is absurdly good at drawing, and every time I receive character design reference sheets, I actually find myself using them as reference for my own work!

And starting with Mr. Miura in the role of Gakuro and Ms. Oonishi in the role of Nue, I am confident that thanks to this overwhelmingly dazzling cast of voice actors, the characters will come alive with an even greater presence!

I look forward to your continued support for Nue's Exorcist...!!"

How old is Kawae again? I just noticed that he claim that he was an office worker.

They fell for the Spy x Family bait and signed all these deals while Sakamoto Days, Akane, Nue, etc all perform better than most Jump+ hits like Marriagetoxin. Not that sales dictate everything, but I have the impression some studios didn't expect WSJ to clearly win over Jump+ after all the hype it got at the start of the decade.

Don't remember his birthday, but he's between 31 to 32 right now. He was 25 when his first one-shot was published in 2019.

Hey, who would you guys like to see for the final batch of the year? Here are my picks (please note, that it's not all at once, but who we could expect to see make it in the last batch):
ROOKIES:
- Tabigoro Kuji (most likely GFC Winner joining the line-up)
- Natsuki Osonoe (Tate Roll, was a very popular one-shot)
- Kento Sako (Naraka, did decently well online)
- Taisei Tsujita (Naraku no Ko, very active at making one-shots)
- TSCR (Neon Vampire, author has a huge following online)
- Tarō Kaneko (Demons on a Plate, my Darkhorse pick)
AXED RETURNEES:
- Minya Hiraga (Neru: Way of the Martial Artist, a return has been hinted)
- Tadaichi Nakama (Tokyo Demon Bride Story, Gran Gigolga was a popular one-shot)
- Shinpei Watanabe (Ginka & Gluna, why not?)
- Omosuke Kobayashi (Psych House, could see him coming back as long as he doesn't have a main character that's dirt poor stealing food in order to survive)

I would be content with no big name vets returning in the final batch like with Horikoshi because I feel that we've been getting enough of them as of late & not enough new blood, which Jump may need more of in the very near future.

I just want any GFC winner. Like once this one ends, we're going to have 4 waiting in the wings. Also hopefully next year we see the return of Hayashi. I know he has his oneshot in Giga coming up, but hopefully that doesn't mean that his return is far off.

Not necessarily. I remember when MHA Shoto's character sheet and a few others had emotes from the sports festival back in s1

I just really have a hot take, but Mamayuyu's run was better than Bachi's equivalent run. I'm not the biggest fan of some of the things either series did in their first 25 or so chapters, and I know people love that Sojo fight (I enjoy it too, its not like I don't), but idk, Mamayuyu had me actively excited with each new chapter. Bachi really only had me feeling that way towards the peak of that Sojo battle. I think it mostly comes down to me feeling like Hayashi just had the ability like fujimoto to make every small moment interesting, the story just flowed. All this to say, I've been waiting for his return for like 3 years now 😭.

I think most of these will struggle with writing an interesting narrative week to week. They catch attention because they make these aura farming one shots, but the stories are pretty generic. If we're doing newbies, better to just publish the whole GFC winner crew, at least they're more proven.

- Minya Hiraga (Neru: Way of the Martial Artist, a return has been hinted)
Isn't the hinted return in a different magazine?

- Omosuke Kobayashi (Psych House, could see him coming back as long as he doesn't have a main character that's dirt poor stealing food in order to survive)
That controversy didn't play a huge role in it being axed. The main reason is that it's a boring slice of life with not very likeable characters. His one shots already had this issue. Never got how he got published so quickly.

As a writer, he gives an aura of someone who is naturally more interesting than most authors and the way he integrates narrative with visuals is very creative. He still failed at some basic points with Mamayuyu and I understand why he was axed, but I always think it was a waste and there was something special there.

I will stand by my take that if Mamayuyu came out even 6 months later, it would have ran for at least double of what it did.

uh, did people forgot that Hayashi was just desperately pumping out character gachas every single chapter in mamayuyu? The writing was on auto pilot past it's first chapter. It was barely interesting.

It was messy no doubt, but man, reading those volume 4 extra chapters makes you feel the sheer passion he had. I KNOW he can pull off a great full series.

If Hayashi didn’t ditch lolibaba Mamama and double downed on the fan service earlier, and made Minvera more prominent…..he could have survived

He could have gave Kawae a run for his money

The Apollo one-shot gives me 20th Century Boys vibes.
With you being my age, I’m surprised you didn’t see the “Iron Giant“ connection. Unless you’re not from the west.

I just think he needs the right editor who can filter out his bad tendencies and bring out his best traits in writing.

Yes, absolutely. But like others have said, he’s got a little something special in him. Especially when he writes a character-driven story/narrative.

It’s just a matter of finding the right editor who can bring that out and polish it to its best form.

Eh, this is a very uncharitable reading I feel. While it did definitely feel a bit desperate around like the early 20s or so, it was also like the central gimmic of the story. That we'd see a bunch of heroes and demon lords from different dimensions. So it kinda comes with the territory to introduce a bunch. He definitely did rush to throw a bunch of pieces on the board once he got into hot water, but I really don't think that he was doing anything that unexpected. And even with it admittedly feeling a bit rushed later on, idk, the strong bones were still there, being hindered by him trying to salvage a sinking ship. (Which I think he did, the extra chapters make it very memorable)

"Shueisha DeNA Projects announces the anime adaptation of "Nue no Onmyouji"!
As the No. 1 work in the "Manga I Want to See Animated Ranking 2025," we've already received a huge response since last night's announcement.
The whole team will do our best to live up to your expectations."

This is the DeNa CEO and Founder talking about the Nue anime, first time she's talked about any anime I'm pretty sure.

Like... DAMN.

My problem with MMYY was honestly that it felt like there was no real through line post volume 1. Like I never felt like there was any real end goal or motive for most of the characters, they wanted to return to their worlds in most cases but the how was never really explained and it felt like we kinda meandered around after that chapter where Corleo and Minerva fought the shadow guy. It's been a long while since I last read but I distinctly remember when those chapters were coming out I had a "yeah it's done." feeling.

There was this like climatic battle that happened with the fire using hero (I forget his name), and the chapters after that felt like it was leading up to something like a final battle because he like got an axe notice maybe? But then it just didn't happen then we launch into the haunted house arc. I knew right then and there the series wasn't in it for a long time because there was just no through line to the plot beats whatsoever and it's not like this was like an early medaka box situation where you have loosely connected narratives feeding into a greater whole later, we were just doing shit for the hell of it which doesn't really work with the story he was trying to tell I feel. I'm down to clown with what an author is trying to do but idk I just felt like we were all over the place even from the start.

I believe he can make a hit (I do for all of that Jump next wave batch tbh - Itsumo Elk where are you) but that structure was terrible. I think the final fight was pretty decent and with the additional chapters I think i closed well enough, but idk art wise I vibed with MMYY alot but aside from the character work being good there was a lot of frustrating choices made that made me not enjoy my weekly read at the time and I was honestly a little stone faced seeing the axe. Like I remember people kinda rioting when but I don't know how you would even salvage where the story was at chapter 15-20 or so. The foundation was too rotted to keep working.

Compared to Kaedegami where I felt like although the arc with the flaming tiger demon was kinda mid. The arc after that where they went against the demon leading the theater troupe (Taotie I think?) was great and I could've seen them going for another 5-6 arcs gathering allies for Kou and having them confront their personal demons in addition to their literal ones like Huazi did. But alas my dreams only can come true once in awhile. Rest well Chiyou my beloved the world wasn't ready for you.

To me, Mamayuyu felt like a hastily stitched together patchwork of ideas. There were good ideas but the author did not plan things out enough and none of it connected as a result. You had some skipped fights and some creative ones, some cool panelling and some awful, characters suddenly showing up then disappearing, it kinda tried to be a harem but didn't commit to it, not to mention ch 1 setting up the mother as if she was a dual protagonist only to totally drop her for the rest of the series.

It's definitely a series that needed more time to plan things out properly and maybe a stricter editor to keep it on track as well.

Kaedegami by comparison was just rather forgettable with weak action and characters. It had bootleg Nue and that's about it.
