Issue 48:

1. Nue's Exorcist

It's extremely satisfying seeing an abuser getting their face punched by the girl he bullied. What's even cooler is that Shiroha's fist there feels exactly like Gakuro's punch against Kasha, they're both on the same length because they elevate each other and found their voices together. It's such a triumphant moment to see her go from that sitting stance to finally revealing her Soul Armor. Years of the story paying off, but I'm also happy Itsuki will get a proper fight and showcase his kit.

2. Roku

We knew they were cursed with tragic pasts, and so did Roku, but this still hurts a lot, doesn't it? The comedy chapters made me love this family of weirdos and Sachiko is such a relatable friend to Roku and adorable to the reader. Learning what happened to her is insane, we live in a world where a girl like this that just wants to talk and share the stuff she loves wasn't allowed to live. I could feel all that weight on Roku's heart.

3. Ura

Most romcom protagonists are common guys and we learn all we need to know right at the beginning of the story, so the circumstances around Kibitsu's life are interesting and it seems like, even though he's our POV character, we're learning more about him alongside Ura. As they get closer, we're invited a bit deeper into their world, not just on the romantic side, but about their personal stories and hidden feelings.

4. Roboco

Honestly? She didn't lie about most of these, which makes it even funnier.

5. Someone Hertz

I was ready to not like this chapter much as this guy isn't that fun to have around, but we got a different cool side of our main duo trying to be cool senpai. New expressions feel so rare here I had to give it a vote.

As for the others, he said The Thing in Hero Destroyerz, but isn't the pace a little weird? And I'm wondering if giving whole chapters to jobbers who won't advance class in Hal Formula means it's ending or not, Terasaka could be showcasing some characters he had for later, but also could just be the author taking his time.

Insane (and amazing) chapter for Under Doctor, the best action chapter of the series in my opinion, Haiji face expressions were actually scary Tanimoto did a pretty great job in making the reader feel just how pissed off Haiji was about the situation, and also poor Shuli

10/10 Chapter!

And he learn from previous mistakes that he makes against Maxell (like the glasses)

FF is a weird man... The fact that he meticulously calculated the wound on Shuli to prolong his suffering without killing him it's really horrible

I'm surprised Haiji didn't wrap up this fight this chapter. This could be even longer than the polygamous superhuman fight.

2B...I don't know when it gets serious I can't get into it the same way I did with Gintama's serious moments. Glad the other students won't be sidelined in the story at the very least(maybe?)

Spoiler: small mistake with roku's chapter

It's in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 48, on sale today, with chapter 27 of "Roku's Weird House" as the center color feature! Volume 2 is also coming out on November 4th! Thanks in advance for your support! And really, I'm so sorry! There was a mistake on page 4, and Roku's line should have been, "It's the first time I've come here since that ritual." We'll fix it in the tankobon! It was such an important chapter, and I went and screwed it up!

I wholeheartedly disagree. In fact, Akari kind of embodies the reader who got attached to Sachiko I feel: "Surely we are in no rush to talk about this, yeah?" Continuously being thought, but the story itself not taking that. He has to face this harsh truth, he is too used to this fun life with all of the curses, he, as well as the audience, NEEDED a slap in the face like this.

Will talk about it more in the review, but I VERY much approve of this approach.

Just as an addendum, Sachiko would logically have been the simpler curse to research given that her circumstances are most likely more recent than the others. Johan's got a vampire thing going on, so his history may be lost in medieval texts. Kabaneji's from a wartorn era, so his could have been stuck in feudal texts. Altra and the dog are hard to pin down, but they could be just as old. Sachiko's garb immediately pins her down to be at least from 1950 and beyond, so more contemporary mediums would've been found.

And for a drama arc, I also agree with Sachiko being the first. One underlying question I wondered about is if the curses would leave the story once they find peace. If there's anyone here that would lead to an immediate heart attack on the reader at the threat of them never appearing again, it's Sachiko.

It's a very good first step, that much I can agree with.

 

[Discomusic]

1. Under Doctor: The chapter took great advantage of the visibility given by the high ToC ranking. The series is usually criticized when it goes battle mode, yet seeing Haiji getting serious for the first time was satisfactory, and probably hyped by the long wait since the last time he was involved in a fight. The enemy is a one-dimensional villain, so it was like Kenshiro vs. a secondary boss (Uighur? The whips check out), complete with the thousand punches ending.
2. Akane-banashi: Two great stories are told in this chapter: the story of what happens with all those old characters and what influence does Akane have on them, like when Luffy gets a new bounty and we tour the old islands to see everyone's reaction. And the story of the slow descent of Akane into the dark side, with Guriko who will eventually snap her out of it. The whole situation is hooking.
3. Someone Hertz: I always ask this series to try and do something different, but I never thought about a different radio show: great idea. I also like that they accept the Kohai for what he likes instead of gaslighting him into becoming a follower of their show. A heart stirring senryu: "My job interview - is in just two hours now - my heart is pounding"
4. Roku's House of Oddities: It is difficult to review this chapter. It is meant to be serious and dark, and for sure it was: but I can't say I felt all the tension that Roku felt. When he tried to convince himself that this was to be expected, it didn't work for him but it worked for me. On the bright side, this could have escalated easily to a battle against the ghost but I'm glad that it took an original turn. Now I hope he will get over it, we still need the sillyness of this series.
5. Class 2-B: Hero Destroyerz: Huge rise in the ranking because of the Hokuto no Ken parody. That, and the evoluition joke too. It's a problem when the best part of a suppodesly semi-serious chapter are the gags.
6. Kagurabachi: They say the flashback is speeding, yet there is still time to spend a chapter showing an evil council and cold-blooded torture. Note that thisis not a critic, as both the council and the torture were very cool.
7. Ichi the Witch: That is one hell of a cliffhanger. I am expecting Desscaras to come out of this situation with sheer willpower, but the chapter ends in a way that I don't still can take it as a guaranteed outcome. It will all happen very fast anyway, one more chapter and this is all solved.
8. Sakamoto Days: This was very strange but also very fun, especially because the cinema guy wasn't around for the chapter even if this is his home turf basically. But the idea of the two clashing through the various sets and destroying billion of dollars of props in the process was brilliant in its stupidity.
9. Hal Formula: For the first time Suzukaze is the followed rather than the follower, and he is playing well the uncomfortable role. One down, another comes, and she may actually win after all.
10. Graykeith: Translatoon Daemonica: The cop twist was a twist that I did not see coming, and that I don't feel I needed, but the way it was revealed was good for a fun gag. The Baron also has a cool design and a cool personality, I hope he will return.
11. Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi: Good twist, I could have arrived at it if I payed more attention. I think he is hiding some true motives, but for now let's enjoy the match, the outcome is uncertain.
12. Witch Watch: Yes, Nico is one of the protagonists so she can't not play a role in the final fight (complete with final boss transformation). It can be anything, it may even happen that she messes up and they become ducks or something. But that will be the key to victory.
13. Nue's Exorcist: I saw the discussion about the comparison between this and Bleach. Since I tend to do this a lot lately, I want to clarify that for me the similarities have nothing to do with the plot, but it's more about the fights, with huge weird shaped weapons and attacks that completely rely on rule of cool. This chapter is another example of what I mean.
14. Cannon Master: The art is very good, the action has great pacing and flow, and yet it fails to have my attention. Unfortunately, it is committing the sin that too many promising series commit when they get close to the axe: it became generic.
15. Shinobi Undercover: The arc is over! Let's celebrate! Now please do more ninja stuff, and if you want to still do romance, at least make it feel more organic and less forced.
16. Animal Signal: It lost me when they both couldn't bring it to tell him what they think for whatever reason. Luckily for them they solved the case just by stalling for time, but really there was no reason to not bring it up to him even as a gag.
17. The Ura Files: It has to be nice to be a teenager and enjoy this kind of chapter. For me it is difficult, because I feel I am out of target, but it is easy to see why it is working: it hits all the right spots.
18. Me and Roboco: Is street poetry a real thing in Japan? I think I never saw one in my life. Unfortunately for Roboco, her poetry isn't that good and the chapter never took off.

Kagurabachi: Very oddly paced chapter, and not simply because of the time skip, in fact I'd rather have it than not, this flashback's been dragging for a while now, but not even a LINE from Chiaki? Misaka just left now? And we have not even seen the last swordbearer yet? And we did NOT need a whole double spread for that meeting shot, the page count is low as is, can we NOT do that??

So, the author chooses what he wants to tell. If Hokazono chose to show Mikaboshi's side in this chapter, it shows that the pacing isn't as rushed as you all keep saying. Furthermore, the Seitei war is the most important moment in the manga; all the mysteries of the work originated from that moment, so there's no way to rush it just because you don't like the manga. To tell the truth, this forum has always been more inclined towards Nue than Kagurabachi.

I decided to read Roku because of some comments and it's was pretty nice. I think It will enter my top 5 of the week.

The curses finding peace possibility reminded me of Shiba Inu Rooms. It surely is a way to get the reader invested emotionally.

Great UD chapter as well. Great action. Of it turns out like that always, then that's a fine Sakamoto replacement.

I have the series in my top 5 a lot of the times, it's just this flashback as a whole that I am conflicted on. What do you MEAN I don't like the manga??

To tell the truth, this forum has always been more inclined towards Nue than Kagurabachi.
