I’ve been having this interesting discussion with both Anubis and others about what the last batch of series should be (minus the return of Naruto and Bleach). Not so much of series based on one-shots or certain artists returning or making their debut, but more on their genres. So which genres should we get to close off this year?

I feel like we can safely skip rom-coms or something mostly romance adjacent in this batch because we just got 2 being done by 2 big name duos.
For the inverse, we haven't gotten as much action series this year, so I would love to see 1 or 2 new series like that in this next batch.
I also wouldn't mind a more straightforward & serious battle exorcism series because we haven't gotten one of those in a hot minute & could contrast nicely with the horny Nue & lighthearted Kiyoshi

My choice will be 2 battle series and a sports one. Comedy and romance are great this year and I think there is a reason to push for them now.

The 2 battle series I think should be approved are a sci-fi one, similar to World Trigger. The second is a tough one. I want to stay away from fantasy, exorcist, or assassin for what we already have. I’m wavering but maybe a basic martial arts story kind of like what Neru failed in but something close but Jump like in Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple where the character learns their martial arts skills and master them. Being more grounded in reality but with a lower stakes goal but grows on an emotional level. Or the other choice is a delinquent one. It’s due to how Kodansha has grown recently in the years thanks to Tokyo Revengers and Wind Breaker, so Jump would like to dip its toes back into that genre. However I think that it should keep it basic without special moves and really keep it in what is going on in the mind of the current Japanese youth in today’s landscape due to current politics, education, or use of technology. I would have picked another fantastical type of genre like cyberpunk, but because of the current roster of battle series and ones that are leaving I think I had to step away from fantastic on the second choice so it can stand out that much more from the others.

The sports one I think would be laughed at but it could be possible given that Saito hasn’t given up on sports with our last push with Hal Formula, despite its reception. So after seeing what we got and what failed by Saito, I think I know what he should approve of next, tennis. I know that is a wild thing to say but hear me out. Recently Saito tried to bring back sports genres we haven’t seen in a very long time to see if there are modern audiences that will take to them. Hal Formula is one but that’s not happening, and earlier in the year with Drawn To The Fire. The last time we had a Basketball series launched was in 2009 with two in particular. The first was Saito’s launch and success with Kuroko’s Basketball, but the second and last time before DttF was launched and was a failure was Hoopmen. However with the recent conclusion of The New Prince of Tennis, it gives new possibilities to find a new tennis successor after a legend in The Prince of Tennis has been to Jump and Shueisha after its success for such a long time for over a quarter of a century. That or Saito can try basketball again like that Bleach and Mashle assistant did in their one-shot not to long ago.

Well, i think it will be 3 new series at best, we really didn't get much of a traditional battle shounen this year, even the action series like Kinato, Alien & Cannon all had some clear differences or twists in the premise from what i consider something more traditional like Kiyoshi, so i do expect a typical battle shounen by a newbie, i do expect Jump to try yet again another sport series, like, why not? the other might be a supernatural/exorcist type of series, we actually haven't got one the whole year.

Yeah, the closest that we got is Roku, which is far more comedy & slice of life than battle
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Which is ironic, because Nakamura's first series was a battle exorcism series

My bet for issue 50 cover: Someone Hertz by pure default because there isn't anything else. One Piece cover is getting saved for chapter 1200, Sakamoto and Ichi had recent covers, Kagurabachi anniversary lol, and for some reason Akane Banashi despite being one of the major titles of Jump never gets covers unless anime or anniversary.

I want a battleshonen, spokon and something out of the ordinary like a tcg / board game manga.

1. We need another Kiyoshi Killer. FOR REAL THIS TIME.

I want someone to steal ideas from Xiaolin Showdown.

2.HAL formula is a dud. Don't care about sales, it's just very boring. J+ is already serialising a far more entertaining spokon in slapshot girls so i want to see wsj tries to outdo it.

I really want someone to write something like Air Gear but without the battle shonen aspect. Something like Jet Set Radio. Shame no one in Japan has seen the light yet.

3. personal taste. I want to see someone daring enough to write a tcg in this climate. Board game is fine too.

Yes more exorcists please, it's part of what makes Roku amazing.

You already have the Kiyoshi killer, is called One Piece
But Usui is unbeatable in character design and drawing overall

YOU CAN'T RUN AWAY FROM HIM! (hahaha)

- - -

Obviously, I'm just joking with the message above

On a more serious note, I'm really hoping for a series centered on sports (like rugby or niche sports like that) and a full-fledged comedy series (something similar to Dr. Slump and Arale-chan)

Tbh, I really want a sci-fi series. Could be pretty fun.
I think we will have more standards battle series this new batch though. And if Saito hasn't given up yet on sports, maybe something from Yukiichi (SWIMEST)?

I’m really hoping for a Kendo/Karate manga. I’ll confess, I want it moreso for Jump’s international audience. I understand the domestic audience is (and always will be) their primary target, but still, I really want them to introduce these two. These two forms of martial arts is something that international/western fans are aware of, but only on a surface level. If someone out there can take readers into a deeper dive of the sport, I think it will be a massive success.

Hoping for HZ’s mangaka to tackle it. It would be perfect for him.

lol If Kagurabachi gets last place again, the fanbase might as well just implode this time.
You're the most suspicious person to say something like that; you've always been on the side against the KGB
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

i say this as a kgb fan.

It will get transfered. 100%.

Your argument is that it's too popular. My argument is that the author is fucking dying.

With that said,

I don't see them ever putting KGB at the digital ver of WSJ because they don't promote Ruri AT ALL nowadays and kgb's potential to be global phenomenon is 100× that of ruri.

And unlike Shindo, Hakezono can most likely still have a consistent schedule and do biweekly serialisation. Shueisha higher ups won't let him be buried in the bench.

His future is in SQ or J+
Ruri and World Trigger were on hiatus for over a year, you can't compare Kagurabachi just because you want to get rid of the manga.

It's more accurate to compare Kagurabachi's situation to My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Black Clover.

i always wanted to see a criminal story, like monster or death note, or a firefighter story, something more ordinary

Or (that one is so specific).. Kemono Kuru serialization (a oneshot released in mid 2025 that combine church and prehistoric)
Here the colorpage to it (idk if you read it)
