So you are saying that a comedy manga like Gintama should not have comedy arcs at all?
These are the author's own words; the manga would have ended sooner if it weren't for the comedy arcs. I think Gintama was supposed to have 30 volumes.

It is not that he didn't want to write comedy arcs. It is just that if there weren't comedy arcs, obviously it would have ended sooner. But no author has a number of chapters and volumes to end before they serialize.

Votes for the previous week.

Issue #48:

1) Roku: Yeah, it was to be expected... but holy shit. It's rare for a series to show so vividly what kind of effect stuff like this can have on other people.

2) Graykeith: That guy's a bit slow, isn't he? Just because you can summon it doesn't mean you can control it. And I guess this explains why the cop looks so young. He reminds me even more of the vampire kid from WW now. The ending was nice to, integrating magic in everyday applications is a great way to make the world feel alive.

3) Kiyoshi: I thought I got it right for a moment when I saw the hair! That guy, huh? Poor kid of his, as if having famous parents wasn't bad enough.

4) Shinobi: "Pretty bold" is Aoi in a nutshell. It's nice to see them enjoy themselves for once, such a shame they can't have their romance play out without the adults interrupting. (Though I don't think the girl will try to kill him right now...)

5) Dr: Yikes! We've seen him do these things before, but the look in his eyes is different now. Really not a guy you want to piss off.

Ichi: Double yikes! We know the guy was up to something, but this is beyond expectations. Doesn't look like it took her out though. (Be careful what you wish for there, buddy.)

Sakamoto: I was gonna say that's a giant studio, but of course it's a green screen. Going through the locations is pretty cool.

WW: No, I feel like you should've thought about it a bit more. That doesn't look like the kind of thing you can just kick down.

Cannon: Talk about walking into the lion's den. They work well together, it's a shame they're immediately split up.

Animal: It's a good thing the one going rogue is the hamster and not the actually dangerous guy.

Hertz: To be fair, "Monday 27 o'clock" is a downright bizarre way to say Tuesday morning. Is that a Japanese thing or are these kids just weird?

Even though the manga still sells over 100k copies, but you want to ignore that. SO IT WAS A SMALL DROP, YES.
20% is not a small drop. It appears to me that you are arguing just for the sake of arguing and not actually trying to prove a point or accomplish anything else here.

Yuno does feel like a take on Sasuke? Because the loud hot blooded short mc that is a orphan, mistreated by most, with a demon inside him that at first prevent him from having normal chakra magic but later gives him exclusive powers and has the wish to become Hokage Magic Emperor so he can get everybody's recognition and has a dark haired silent genius guy as "best friend" doesn't ring any bell? :grin

That's so Bleach & Berserk right? :cheez
You are mention very common things in manga, "inner demon" is the same that the monkey with Goku and the "dark haired silent genius guy" is Vegita, the "but later gives him exclusive powers" is Goku being a alien that give him the Super Saiyan. Mixed a little and you get Devilman, inner demon, genius friends and both end up being very importants beings with huge powers. Berserk is a orphan, mistreated, the hate he has is his inner demon that latter give him power, Griffith is the genius friend.
Is without a dude the mosts common things in manga, just mixed a little in every new series.

I agree with what some of the others are saying. You are taking very generic Shonen manga tropes and acting like they are exclusive to these 2 series. I actually started reading BC because people were calling it a Naruto clone. Before the end of chapter 1, I could see this was not a Naruto clone just based on the relationship between Asta and Yuno. As the series progressed, I could actually see a lot more Bleach influence than Naruto. The Magic Knights and 13 Court Guard Squads share an organizational structure, Asta's inner demon (Liebe) is more like Ichigo's inner demon (the Hollow White) than he is like Naruto's inner demon (Kumara), the inclusion of different races (which was missing from Naruto), the Soul Society/Elf Reincarnation are very comparable, and even the relationship between Asta and Yuno could be argued to be more like Ichigo and Uryu than Naruto and Sasuke. There is so much Bleach influence all over BC that it genuinely surprised me when people try to downplay it.

Sorachi is very tongue in cheek. It’s a joke mixed with the truth. Manga serialization is brutal on people and was especially for Sorachi but he also never missed time or took breaks like other authors do. He’ll Jump tried to get him to end Gin Tama and he overextend his estimated finish line LOL. If he really wanted to end the series earlier he could. If he really didn’t want to come back he wouldn’t but he kind of plays the part.

I think you and I share very similar tastes in that we want it to be mainly battle manga (we’ll battle and adventure for me), but I think it’s more healthy for the magazine to have some variety. Series like Hertz are cool competition wise and Witch Watch/2B have such a good balance of comedy and makes the action/drama even sweeter and surprising. I would like to see a heavy investment in drama/sports/action-adventure fantasy though in the next couple of batches. I feel we’re in a good spot.

The problem is that most new manga don't offer the variety you're pointing out.

Roku, Ura, 2B, and Animal Signal lean towards comedy, just like dozens of other comedies that Jump has published.

The only ones that offer any variety are Graykeith and Under Doctor. The problem is that Japanese tastes tend to favor Ura over Graykeith; just look at the fact that Ura received a color page in chapter 8, while Graykeith didn't, and it's hard to tell what Under Doctor did.

So there's no variety; it's just people prejudiced against fighting shonen who prefer a lot of comedy in the magazine and claim there's variety.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Even Kagurabachi brings more variety to the review, with its grittier setting than Roku, Ura, 2B, and Animal Signal, featuring the same school uniforms and everyday lives that we know where they're headed.

Manga I can see working as a hollywood flick with global appeal, Harry potter and his gains. Japanese live action is wasted on thIs IP.
Write it as a parody like those scary movies.
It definitely could have gotten a global appeal and at the same time alienate the locals. Well, it's not like they watch foreign movies of their own ip anyways.

Dang, tons of SQ's main lineup are ending in the same issue and they're having an exhibition event for 2027?!

The time is nigh...

They barely debut veterans there these days. They should be doing that more if anything. Sorachi wouldn't be axed there and it's also a better place for Naruto and Bleach sequels instead of the main magazine.

Okay, i will do this again, for the last time, now in more details:

Yuki Tabata, a 42 years old author, a big fan of Weekly Shonen Jump series that was reading it when Naruto started in 1999 when he was just a 15yo teenager, this manga that became the 6th best selling manga in history, which has the main character called Naruto that had a very specific past, personality and goals:

-Loud
-Shorty
-Hot-blooded
-Has a creature/demon inside him
-This creature/demon starts as a villain only to become a super friendly partner that helps the mc all the time with powers and new transformations
-Orphan with mysterious parents, the mother literally connected to that creature/demon
-Mistreated by people around him
-Mysterious problem with using chakra that only him has in the village
-Wants to become the Hokage, biggest and most admirable position in the village so he can get recognized by most
-Has a silent dark haired genius rival & friend that is the complete opposite of him, both keep competing to become stronger than each other, at one point even the friend wants to become the Hokage too

So Yuki Tabata releases in 2015 a battle shounen called Black Clover, where the main protagonist, Asta, has these striking and very particular similarities to that Naruto main character, which is:

-Loud
-Shorty
-Hot-blooded
-Has a demon inside him
-This demon starts as a villain only to become a super friendly partner that helps the mc all the time with powers and new transformations
-Orphan with mysterious parents, the mother literally connected to that demon
-Mistreated by people around him
-Only people that can't use magic in the kingdom
-Wants to become the Magic Emperor, biggest and most admirable position in the kingdom so he can get recognized by most
-Has a silent dark haired genius rival & friend that is the complete opposite of him and both keep competing to become stronger than each other, at one point even the friend wants to become the Magic Emperor too

But you know, that's obviously not Naruto influenced, that's Ichigo right? That fits totally the character lol like come on, no one is saying Tabata didn't get influenced by Berserk or Bleach, that's a known fact, but trying to downplay the nearly 1:1 to Naruto that is Asta character as "nah, it's not a influenced that's just shounen manga" when all the comparisons to Bleach or Berserk can be just treated as the same "general shounen/seinen" stuff, the difference is that i'm not trying to downplay these obvious influences for whatever reasons :grin

I'm not even saying everything is inspired because that would be ridiculous to say, i'm very specifically talking about Asta as a main character.
