Zoro would never surpass Luffy by the very nature of their portrayal/role in the series. There will always be at least a marginal gap.
If Zoro hypothetically beats King low-mid diff, IMO Zoro would be close enough to give Luffy an extreme diff fight.
As things are standing now, Luffy wins mid-high diff
