Not really that bad, but the downplay is real.
But I feel it's not really exclusive to Zoro, but to anyone who is somewhat portrayed with Luffy. Like Law and Kid as well, though to a lesser extend since they aren't MCs.
Anyway, it's nothing unusual IMO.
There will always be some in any character's fanbase who would overhype their fav.
