If someone is interested, this is another analysis
The narrative architecture of the manga is anchored by four supreme families (clarification: currently shown in the manga).
(By the way, their hierarchy of structural and general importance/power is organized as follows: Freecss > Netero > Zoldyck >= Hoikoro)
As i have already said (many times)
1) Main patriarchs
2) Main characters (the young child, the new generation)
Gon-Killua-Kurapika (new rat)-Leorio (new boar): the 4 main characters of HXH (related to Chrollo-Hisoka-Pariston-Ging - the adult main characters):
Kurapika and Leorio supplanted Pariston and Ging as the new rat (Kurapika/Pariston) and boar (Leorio/Ging) in the Zodiac just like Hisoka/Killua helped Chrollo/Gon with the Nen removal (also, Nobunaga wanted Gon and Killua inside the Ryodan)
3) Main adversaries
1) Hisoka-Illumi-Tserriednich (adversaries of Gon-Killua-Kurapika)
However, he is directly linked to all the 4 families:
Chrollo: Positioned as an adversary to both the Zoldyck and the Hoikoro families.
4) Main groups
There are four primary groups, divided by their societal alignment and mythological symbolism.
As a matter of fact, the opposition between the Zodiacs and the Ryodan is symbolically represented as the fight between Heaven (Light/Yang/Hunters) and Hell (Darkness/Yin/Criminals)
In short:
The Social/Legal World (Light Symbolism - Yang: White Hair):
Also, Togashi represented a connection between the Nen of the 3 Royal Guards and the 3 main antagonists of Gon-Killua-Kurapika (Hisoka-Illumi-Tserriednich).
As I already said, Togashi deliberately framed Tserriednich's Water Divination test to appear far more ominous and intense than even Neferpitou's. By doing so, he highlights that Tserriednich's Nen talent and inherent dangerousness are exceptional, standing out even among elite Specialists:
Togashi depicted Neferpitou's (but not Pouf and Youpi's) Water Divination test and the development of Hatsu, just as he did with Tserriednich (but not Illumi and Hisoka): It's a schematic planning and structure of Togashi where Togashi is creating a mirror/parallel between Tserriednich learning Nen and Pitou's
Pitou's developing the Hatsu (Dr. Blythe and Terpsichora, like "2 Nen beasts")
Tserriednich's developing the Hatsu (Laplace Devil) + his Guardian Spirit Beast (his 2 Nen Beasts)
There are other parallels in these schemes of characters, such as the head of Kaito after being killed by Pitou (enemy of Gon)=The head of Pairo conserved by Tserriednich (enemy of Kurapika): Just as Gon was driven to pure rage by Pitou’s treatment of Kite's body, Kurapika would probably be bound to reach a similar breaking point when he sees his clan's Scarlet Eyes and Pairo's severed head kept as trophies by Tserriednich
This is also related to the Nen categories, which mirror each other in reverse:
Speculative Connections (this is just a theory): The mystery of Marayam
Given that Prince Marayam is an isolated, singular child (much like Gon and Killua were in their respective family dynamics), Marayam can have special relevance in the Succession Contest.
The narrative architecture of the manga is anchored by four supreme families (clarification: currently shown in the manga).
(By the way, their hierarchy of structural and general importance/power is organized as follows: Freecss > Netero > Zoldyck >= Hoikoro)
As i have already said (many times)
Togashi constructs a symmetrical opposition between two spheres of power: the official world of global politics and the underground world of crime and assassination:
The Hoikoro Family (Royalty and the Legal World)
The Hoikoro family represents the upper, institutionalized world of power. They interact directly with the V5 and, following Kakin’s inclusion in this global group, King Nasubi has become a new member within the newly formed V6.
The Zoldyck Family (Assassins and the Illegal World)
The Zoldyck family are assassins, operate in the shadows and maintain connections with the criminal and illegal world. As a matter of fact, during the Yorknew City arc, the Ten Mafia Dons/Godfathers hire Zeno and Silva Zoldyck to assassinate the Genei Ryodan
Just as Beyond Netero functions as a counterpart to Isaac Netero, with their Yin-Yang-like contrast, most notably their black and white hair, King Nasubi and his son Benjamin appear to parallel Zeno and Silva Zoldyck.
Both pairs follow a similar father-and-son structure:
In short:
- Zeno Zoldyck = Nasubi Hoikoro: elderly patriarchs representing powerful, traditional families related to Chinese culture
- Silva Zoldyck = Benjamin Hoikoro: their tall, physically imposing sons who closely follow the authority and legacy of their fathers and the tradition of the family
- Isaac Netero = Beyond Netero
- Zeno Zoldyck = Nasubi Hoikoro
- Silva Zoldyck = Benjamin Hoikoro
1) Main patriarchs
- Freecss (Don and Ging)
- Netero (Isaac Netero + Beyond Netero/tall and muscular son)
- Zoldyck (Zeno Zoldyck + Silva Zoldyck/tall and muscular son)
- Hoikoro (Nasubi Hoikoro + Benjamin Hoikoro/tall and muscular son)
- 2 families are related to the main characters: Freecss (Gon, son of Ging) and Zoldyck (Killua, son of Silva)
- 2 families are related to illegitimate children: Hoikoro (Benjamin's illegitimate child) and Netero (Beyond's illegitimate child inside the Hoikoro family)
2) Main characters (the young child, the new generation)
- Gon Freecss (the name "Gon" serves as a linguistic bridge, combining elements of Don and Ging: Don + Ging = Gon).
- Killua Zoldyck (+ Alluka Zoldyck)
- Woble Hoikoro (Kurapika’s desire to send Gon and Killua to protect the real Woble)
- Hisoka
- Illumi Zoldyck (evil elder brother of the Zoldyck family)
- Tserriednich Hoikoro (evil elder brother of the Hoikoro family)
However, he is directly linked to all the 4 families:
- He is related to both families: Zoldyck (Illumi) and Hoikoro (Tserriednich): As shown in chapter 420, Hisoka has confronted/"defeated" Tserriednich, and Tserriednich now sees Hisoka as a benchmark/rival for the future (negatively), as Ging defeated Razor, eventually turning him into a trusted ally and co-creator of Greed Island (positively).
- He takes the place of the Netero for Illumi and Tserriednich (instead of Isaac Netero + Zoldyck patriarchs and Beyond Netero + Hoikoro patriarchs)
- He ultimately stands in opposition to the Freecss (Gon and Ging):
- Hisoka-Illumi-Tserriednich are the main adversaries of Gon-Killua-Kurapika
- Hisoka vs Chrollo in the Ryodan (a group of 12 members) mirror Ging vs Pariston in the Zodiacs (a group of 12 members) with Hisoka + Illumi (a mercenary) + Tserriednich (depicted as Jesus and the 14 princes) mirroring Ging Freecss + Muher (a mercenary) + Razor (the devil and his 14 devils)
Chrollo: Positioned as an adversary to both the Zoldyck and the Hoikoro families.
- In Yorknew City, he fought Zeno and Silva to steal their abilities but failed.
- In the current arc, his goal is to steal Kakin's three sacred treasures, the catalysts of the Succession Contest, and acquire a powerful and rare ability to eliminate Hisoka: Chrollo vs King Nasubi (Zeno 2.0)?
- He operated as Isaac Netero’s vice-chairman while simultaneously acting as Beyond Netero’s right-hand man, plotting behind the scenes of both, also against them (he has a "twisted love").
- He stands in direct opposition to Ging Freecss, notably showing zero surprise when Ging revealed the existence of Don Freecss, implying Pariston already knew of him:
4) Main groups
There are four primary groups, divided by their societal alignment and mythological symbolism.
As a matter of fact, the opposition between the Zodiacs and the Ryodan is symbolically represented as the fight between Heaven (Light/Yang/Hunters) and Hell (Darkness/Yin/Criminals)
In short:
The Social/Legal World (Light Symbolism - Yang: White Hair):
- The Zodiacs (Hunters): Pariston (the vice leader, the number 2), symbolically related to Michael the Archangel (evil)
- The Hoikoro Royal Family: Tserriednich, symbolically related to Jesus (evil):as shown in the image, where Togashi represented the halo/"Sun" on Tserriednich's head (since he is represented as a saint but evil) with the head of Pairo instead of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
- Genei Ryodan (Criminals): Chrollo (the leader), symbolically related to Lucifer
- The Zoldyck Assassin Family: Illumi, symbolically related to Satan (drawing themes from the Illuminati and Satanism: the eye of the Illuminati/the eye of Illumi, mind control, control of the governments from the shadow/the 10 dons of the Mafia + George Orwell's 1984 Big Brother/"the entity" (just as Killua calls Illumi: Big Brother): Big Brother
- Hisoka: Symbolizes the Joker card + Grim Reaper (Death): Manga. He exists entirely outside the boundaries of both the legal and illegal worlds, operating completely by his own rules (this is also the reason Hisoka is included in both triads: Hisoka-Illumi-Tserriednich and Chrollo-Hisoka-Pariston)
As I already said, Togashi deliberately framed Tserriednich's Water Divination test to appear far more ominous and intense than even Neferpitou's. By doing so, he highlights that Tserriednich's Nen talent and inherent dangerousness are exceptional, standing out even among elite Specialists:

This is also related to the Nen categories, which mirror each other in reverse:
- Neferpitou (Specialization) + Shaiapouf (Manipulation) and Menthuthuyoupi (Transmutation)
- Hisoka (Transmutation) and Illumi (Manipulation) + Tserriednich (Specialization) ------in reverse
- Gon vs Neferpitou
- Gon vs Hisoka
Speculative Connections (this is just a theory): The mystery of Marayam
Given that Prince Marayam is an isolated, singular child (much like Gon and Killua were in their respective family dynamics), Marayam can have special relevance in the Succession Contest.
