Raws are out and translated, just waiting on Edited Mangas. This actually looks cute, a romantic-comedy with a little fanservice is a nice "change of pace" for Jump. Over the last year or so they seem to have forgotten they have a long history of RomCom series, Kano's Pretty Face not the least of them.

I'm not sure anyone else notices it... but this is the first time I see Kanou using the "funny faces" on the heroine extensively.

I mean sure, Rina in Pretty Face and Aika in Mx0 does have those funny faces every now and then, but it's not used as much as it is in Harisugawa.

I just hope this one can stay afloat, and that the ToC position in 8 weeks will be decent~

It's nice to see the romance series that focuses on both male and female characters. Most of romance series only focuses on one side.

I originally wanted to drop this after being instantly turned off by the fanservice in the first page, but I thought I'd read all 50-something pages to give it a fair assessment.

It has such pretty art, and the story is fairly unique. But the setting and situations are so cookie-cutter that I was shaking my head the entire time. I totally predicted that an accidentally-watch-someone-shower scene would happen, but I had no idea there would be one in the first chapter. We have the guy-likes-girl-who-totally-likes-him-back scenario that we've seen a thousand times. The guy is your typical modest teenage boy with some serious blood pressure problems. The girl is your typical girl who likes to buy MacGuffins and loves to strip down to her bra and panties (which she will be doing a lot of during this series' run). The story would be fascinating if Yasuhiro stopped pandering. I know he doesn't want to be canceled, but inserting that much fanservice into the first chapter just makes him seem desperate.

However, the end of the chapter did interest me. Not the garbage with the Peeping Tom with the video camera. The two characters switching places. I hope the next chapter is story-based, and we get to learn more about the mechanics of the mirror. I'll keep reading for now, but simply because I loved Mx0 and I know Yasuhiro can do better.

Wow that seemed negative ;_;. But I really do love Yasuhiro. I'm glad he's back in WSJ!

Wow, that was just brilliant. Granted, the cliche is overused, but remember, it's how you use it. And I'd say the author executed it pretty well. I just hope it doesn't get cancelled. Just loved the sheer hilarity of this chapter. I haven't read a RomCom that made me laugh so much that my stomach hurts since Nyankoi.

I definitely agree that while many things about the first chapter were cliched, it was executed really well. Of Kanou's works I've only read Loop, so this was really different, too.

As a girl I could do without the panty shots and all, but oh wells... Other than that the story seems interesting - the ending suggests that one of them has to be in the mirror and the other in the outside world at any one time, so I wonder how that's going to work out, and eventually what sort of method they'll need to employ to get both of them out of the mirror for good.

It feels like To Love-Ru minus the harem and plus the shoujo romance stuff. Totally saw it from miles away the confusion with the photo he took along with him. Gonna give it 4 or 5 more chapters because I like the concept and I like the author's other works but if it goes in the direction I think it will, I'll probably drop it. Which makes me sad 'cause I had high hopes for this one.

Besides the panty-shots, shower-scene and all the talk about other "perverted" things, this was pretty good. The mirror was pretty interesting, but I don't know how he could keep it that way for a long time. I'll wait and see how this developes

The first two chapters were not bad, but not really great. I'm not really sold yet. The story is interesting, but RomCom lives and dies on the characters. While I don't dislike either, nothing about them seems very interesting. Certainly to early to judge though. I will definitely read at least a volume before I decide what I think. All it can take is a few more chapters to build some attachment to Harisugawa and Mao.

I don't think we'll ever really get away from cliches, I am expecting a typical visual novel style plot. That's not really a bad thing, as long as it's emotionally believable, the cliches will be easy to forget.

Pretty Face was very racy, the fanservice does not surprise me. It's somewhat refreshing in a way. Except for Medaka, the current Jump line up seem to suggest that life is as chaste and awkward as an endless middle school mixer

It's too early for us to judge, but the readers will be judging it starting from chapter one. And if chapter one hits the bottom of the magazine, it's game over. So I'm going to put it on hold to see if the readers like it or not. That way I can safely drop it without investing too much time (like I did with Mx0 ;______, or easily pick it back up if it doesn't get canceled.

But my honest opinion is that Yasuhiro screwed up this time. Well, not really him. It was probably his editor that made him create the embodiment of a stereotypical romcom. And even if it was Yasuhiro's idea, his editor is still at fault for not doing enough quality control.

Chapter 2 was quite interesting - I liked that there was a time limit to how long Harisugawa could stay outside of the mirror. The fact that the mirror resets every time was a nice little twist as well.

The next chapter is going to be about them going to school, so I wonder what's going to happen. Since Harisugawa told his parents he was going on a trip, I assume the school will also be told likewise.

Any guesses on how to break the mirror's curse?

I never really thought about it that way. But even without panty shots and the ilk, it's not like the other series like Bleach don't have big boobs on the verge of spilling forth. Either way, the "chaste"-ness doesn't bother me

I disagree. I don't think we should blame it on his editor. His editor clearly knew Yasuhiro's forte is RomCom. It's stereotypical, but like Hattori of Bakuman once said: It doesn't matter if you use cliches, what's more important is HOW you use and execute it. Which is also an important rule to live by for authors. And I'd say Yasuhiro did a job well done of executing it.

Most manga are based on stereotypes and cliches, anyway. Even the best of mangas are, to some degree. Still, like Newkerzy has pointed out, it really depends on the execution. If executed well, cliches can work and work well. Nevertheless Kanou is still the creator and his editor can't have that much say over what he writes, especially as he's a fairly established mangaka already. I wouldn't blame the editor alone if it didn't work out, Kanou is as much at fault. Like Newkerzy, I too personally think that thus far the cliches have been executed rather well and he should be commended for that.

Still, to each his own Two chapters is way too early to make a proper judgment of the series, anyway.
