Aigooo, another game finished. First of all, thank you, everyone, for playing and trying hard. Mafia was both active and relatively well-hidden (primarily Sam). Actually, props to Sam for a strong redemption game; despite not claiming (and James being alive), they managed to (somehow) cast suspicion on Sltyth to cop the W.
We came up with this comp relatively quickly. As you can see, it's fairly low in power on both sides. This game was meant to be heavier on the prediction side of things (the Avengers, the Poisoner). The comp was designed around two roles: Mafia Poisoner and Mafia Doctor. Particularly, Mdoc sees little play these days, so we thought it could be an interesting feature to provide some threats for doc to watch out for. What's funny is that James remained puzzled throughout till the first Avenger got hit.
Poisoner is a fun role to include, a 1-night delay in exchange for repeatable soft-strongman. Then, at some point, the possibility to swing momentum by stacking a poison and a regular kill. Although it beats Doctor, it is, funnily enough, completely beaten by Hider (which bypasses Poisoner entirely because the killing action and dying have to happen on the same night). Hider Traitor therefore only works if the mafia team employs regular kills. They could only recruit when they were in a pickle (or attempting to swing for the fences). Mafia had a slow start and a fourth, hidden member that they could only recruit without their powerful killing ability.
Town was pretty low-power. They barely had a doctor, and no det or prosti. BG's don't slow down the mafia wincon, and due to a general lack of power roles, the BG's were meant to mostly protect strong contributors, rather than simply strong roles. To guard against their own killing roles, we had the Spy-fearing M(c)Doc, a bulletproof and a doc. Because of the low information state and the uncertainty of Avengers activating their powers, Kamikaze Bomb (also an uncommon role) existed to force the game state a bit. Speaking of Avengers, how funny is it that the one who guessed Doc never got to activate his power (and never would get to), while the one who guessed Bulletproof managed to kill a mafia?
Hope you found this a quick and enjoyable game! It was certainly fun for me (despite my having to now get a Long Chicken at some point). Many thanks to my favourite co-host. Beautiful avis as usual, but also just really chill to set up everything really quickly. Love it. It's by the way been a while since I've done any spicydicey omo aigo mechanics (this year I've only hosted vanilla spice), so perhaps next time I put on my hosty hat, it will feature some mechanisms.
