I am confused about the role of muscle is as compared to Nen. When Killua fought Zushi, Zushi used only Ten and wanted to use Ren. Zushi could get up from whenever Killua hit him even though Killua can move tons. If Sushi used Ren I think Killua wouldn't be able to hurt him. But there are some muscular members who use Nen. Like Uvo. He is a powerful Enhancer and still very muscular. Or what about Biskue. She trained her body to be very strong along with powerful nen. For some reason in her case her muscular body made a lot of difference. If that is so, why didn't it make a lot of difference for Killua and Zushi? What is the real role of muscles in Nen?

Well. Nen can destroy body parts easily without protection it means your muscles are not very useful but if you are muscular and that you have a strong Nen your physical strength coupled with your Nen will be more powerful than someone who has the same Aura level than you but is weaker physically, idem for your durability. So, muscles are just a bonus which permits to increase the power of your attack and your defense.

This is why Enhancers have the best offense and defense.

Physical strength complements your Nen strength. Uvogin, for instance, was a master Enhancer AND was the strongest member in the Troupe as far as physical strength was concerned. That's what made him such a dangerous opponent.

I'd say - think of it like an RPG.

You have your characters, who have their base stats, such as strength and vitality. And then you have weapons and armor you can equip on them.

The weapons and armor in RPGs are like nen.

Weapons and armor's stats are usually defined as (+n)

As it is added onto the base stat to determine the final stat.

So a person with base strength of 19 and a weapon with +37 strength has a total strength of 56.

While a person with base strength of 3 and a weapon strength of +49 has a total strength of 52.

Same for defense and armor.

Modeling the Killua vs. Zushi fight under these terms.

Zushi (we can assume) had a low base defense of - let's say, 6. Which, under base circumstances, would mean he would be throttled to death by Killua and his relatively high strength stat of 29.

But Killua is fighting barehanded with no additional wepaons to assist his strength, so he's attacking with only his base strength, while Zushi, despite his low base defense, is wearing a piece of relatively strong armor of +20 defense, so his total defense comes out to 26.

Every character in HXH has an implied physical body rating. Aura is still only a multiplier on your physical body. The standard aura punch is at best twice the physical strength. Using a special might get you 5 or 10 times the normal power, but it's still a multiplier on your physical strength. If you've say Kuroro use Big Bang Punch, it's not going to be anywhere as strong as Ubogin, not only because he is the wrong school, but that clearly he is physically weaker than Ubogin as well.

Now why does the manga say you can't beat aura without using aura yourself? Because it's implied the physical difference between comparable characters are very small. Let's say Ubogin's physical power has a rating of 10. We know Kurapika can hurt him when Ubogin cannot use Aura, and Kurapika has at most a 160% modifier on direct punch. This means Kurapika's physical body is no weaker than 10/(1.6) = 6.25. They're probably a lot closer than that as Ubogin always thought of Kurapika as a worthy opponent. A corollary of this is that it takes a very small difference in your total power to do serious damage to the other guy. Therefore, not using aura is pretty much suicidal against anyone who is remotely as strong as you are. Note that this is not true when there's a wide disparity in power. When Gon faced Pitou the second time, Killua said Pitou can no longer defeat Gon without using aura, which means he can do it the first time. After all, the Ants are allowed to have off the scale physical abilities, so if Pitou is say a 50 and Gon is a 10, then he is very safe even if he never used aura.

While muscle mass has no direct correlation to the hidden physical power, people who are very physically powerful typically are drawn to be muscular. Ubogin and Razor are obvious examples. Yupi is drawn as the most muscular amongst the royal guards and it's nearly certain he's also the physically strongest member of the three. Of course, Meryem is rather skinny and his physical power is off the charts, but he's clearly an exception to this rule.

its easy... the aura is made in the body... probably in the muscles and other parts... the bigger the muscles are the more aura you can create :)....
