Just throwing it out there - what are the chances that the Uchiha clan wiped out the Uzumaki clan because of their seals. Would it be possible for the Uzumaki clan to have created a doujutsu seal to effectively shut down the Sharingan? If so, I'd call that a motive. Would also further add to why Konoha wears the clans symbol on their uniforms - maybe they felt a bit responsible because the Uchiha was their ally.
