The first thing that sprung up the theory in my head was while I was skimming :re for Mutsuki and Urie parts mainly to compare them to Kaneki. I came across Uta and Hirako's interaction at the auction raid
This:
Now I know what you're thinking
"Wut? Ho dis mean Uta = Arima? U tarted, m8?" said the world.
Ok, for one, that's pretty offensive, but two, just bare with me for a minute alright. It'll all make some indiscernible amount of sense soon enough.
The reason why that caught my eye is because Hide's long lost brother felt the need to bring Uta's appearance to Hirako's attention. Why would he though? He wasn't there in Uta's flashback. Even if he was there, there's no reason either one of them would recognize Uta. He doesn't have any distinguishable similarity to how he looked in the flashback. I think it's fairly safe to assume that they've encountered each other at some point AFTER the flashback and before what we see above.
Chances are that event was:
Now, it's important to note that Hide-sorta said the "LAST" battle implying that there were multiple ones that we haven't seen. Additionally, he said only HEARD about it. He wasn't there, but we can assume that Hirako at was there for at least one of those battles.
Then there's this:
Uta not only displays the ability to change is face and seemingly his voice to match another person's, but chose to mimic Arima to get a reaction out of him.
Connections between the two besides a poorly written fan-fiction:
I'll just start off with their personalities
Both act in similar manner with Arima being more serious and Uta being more friendly, but usually wear a pretty expressionless face most of the time. It's worth noting that Ishida keeps "sadistic" in his mind when drawing Arima, but Arima hasn't really displayed much sadism, more apathy than anything else. Uta on the other hand...
Moving on to Kaneki-kun
Arima obviously cares about quite a bit to go through all this trouble for him so I don't see the need to explain that any further. Uta on the other hand also seems to be fairly interested in Kaneki claiming that he will always be a "special customer". You could say that it simply means he's interested in him and looking at this:
Seems to jive, right?
Well..
More or less
Looking at the first two pages, you can interrupt that as all of them just agreeing to have more "depressing" and "interesting" "fun," and it still could be, but you can also look at it as all of them like Kaneki, with the addition or exception of Roma who just wants a more depressing scene. Now, look at what Uta responds with . You can look at that as just him commenting on tragedies OR as a sort of addition onto what the other clowns said. Instead of having Kaneki die, "why not have more fun?"
As for Uta's tattoo, I'm fairly certain that when he got it, it was referring to Yomo. However, now it's just whomever holds his interest; reminiscent of Batman and The Joker.
Going along that line;
it's possible that Hirako became a target of his. "Kill as I do." That's what Arima said he wanted Kaneki to do, but from what we've seen, isn't that what he also wants Hirako to do too? It's unlikely that Arima actually tortured him in the exact same way he did Kaneki, but it's possible that he did push him in a similar manner; by pressuring him again and again like he just "finished" doing with Kaneki. As I mentioned above, we can be fairly certain that Hirako DID fight the clowns before and it's possible that that and pressuring him in a slightly less life-threatening way as Arima is what molded Hirako into what we see now and if Kaneki is anything to look at:
Maybe it's not so surprising that Hirako wouldn't hesitate when Uta used that Arima mask.
Now, if we assume that Hirako is similar to black reaper Kaneki, then it's possible that he sorta hates him but still sorta sees him as 'family', just as Kaneki did.
Moving on to the.. slight physical differences between Arima and Uta, Based on what we've seen kagunes and kakuja kagunes do so far. I think it's possible that Uta just used his to alter his physical appearance. We've already seen the face and if we look at the sizes of the 2. Arima's height, weight, and foot length (why do we have that info I'm not sure) are all HIGHER than Uta's meaning that he could use his kagune to add on to his body (covering up any tattoos). Even Arima's birthday (Dec. 20th) is just Uta's with an extra 0 added on (Uta's is Dec. 2). Lastly, the hair... I am I saying that Uta just puts on a wing, maybe... But it COULD also just be more of his kagune... No, we haven't seen anyone make hair from their kagune. We HAVE however seen someone make a shit ton of "cloth" though:
(shoutout to Kaneki being a fucking Olympic ghoul gymnast btw)
Sorta lost my train of thought, but I think that covers most of what I was thinking last night.
Other things add:
-alternatively, I was also considering that Hirako found out about Uta being Arima, but can't really do anything about it due to V, being unable to fight him, and/or (thinking) no one at CCG being willing to believe him.
-As for when exactly Uta became Arima, I'm thinking 3 things: he was always Arima (which would explain his extraordinary abilities at a young age), he killed and replaced Arima at some point (possibly during one of their Clown clean ups), or Uta and Arima are 2 separate personalities in the same body.
-Arima was known for falling asleep in battle or just during an operation. It seems rather odd for someone who chastises his partner for being "0.1 [of a second]" off to be so lax as to let himself fall asleep at such an important time. Perhaps he was just exhausted from living a double life?
-There's already a confirmed connection between the clowns and Arima... Furata and Souta. Where he would fit into all of this could go a different few directions.
That's all I got. There's probably typos. I might fix em, might not. Anyhow, said it a couple times already, but I'm not taking any of this as fact. This is probably the most out there I've gone with a theory, but whatever I guess. As always critic is appreciated although I can't promise that I'll be reading it anytime soon...
^^^^THAT^^^^ .... was a lot!
