MangaHelpers' Best Slice of Life 2011 is...

BAKUMAN

It's not easy to become and live as a mangaka, as Moritaka Mashiro knows from his late uncle, the mangaka Taro Kawaguchi.

At 9th grade, while trying to keep up with reality, school and then a normal job, he left his notebook with a sketch of Miho Azuki, a girl he likes. Akito Takagi, a first-rate student found it and tries to convince Mashiro to draw a manga with his story. Mashiro doesn't like the idea and declines.

Takagi, however, sticks to his dream and found out that Azuki wants to be a voice actress and has already gotten a good reply from a production company. Takagi then brought Mashiro to her house and told her his dream... Mashiro then tells her that he will write a manga with Takagi and will ask Azuki to voice their anime.

Under the pen-name, Muto Ashirogi, Moritaka sets out to become the world's best shonen manga artist!

I nominate Yotsuba&! for best slice of life.

I can't really think of a reason why this is the best slice of life. It just is.

I nominate Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou for best slice of life. I guess being in a peaceful and happy mood every time I read a chapter was not something that easy to achieve. Thousand thanks Ashinano sensei !

I'd nominate Yotsuba& as well, but since Matt did it already I'll go with the second best thing from the same author :
I nominate Azumanga Daioh for best slice of life. No real reason comes to mind, only that it's one of the first mangas I've read, and it still makes me smile everytime I re-read/watch it (every 2 years or so), whatever shit is happening in my life at the time.

I'd like to nominate Oyasumi Punpun for best slice of life. Punpun knew that adults had their own complicated circumstances and reasons. That aside, I find Asano's work(s) brilliant in every way.

I can't believe that Bakuman isn't already nominated for slice of life.

The duo that brought us Death Note constantly provides us with views into the world that creates what brought us all here in a both serious and comedic manner. I nominate it... now!!

I think I'm gonna nominate Rock'N Roll Ricky for Best Slice of Life category. It's a story about
a day dreamer and drop out Rickitarou. Once he starts to grasp for the final straw of becoming a rock star, his sister and her husband die in a car accident while Rickitarou's nephew survives. Ricki takes becomes his new father and to get money participates a tv show with the aim to become a pro boxer.
