What Deshaun Watson did was like @xi0 said. He had a pattern of behavior spanning years where he would hire female massage therapists that act like they were hookers. And demand sexual services from them. Sometimes by force or intimidation. Each woman's separate story was remarkably similar. And he met with as many as 66 massage therapist over the course of the last two years. 25 of which filed suits against him in civil court, you can read the details if you like. 20 of which he has settled.

A grand jury did chose not to indict him but keep in mind the burden of proof for a criminal trial vs a civil trial is different. And the league doesn't need a criminal conviction to punish players for violating the personal conduct policy.

Massage therapists aren't automatically sex workers though

And what you're describing is something baseball and basketball players do more often since they're on the road longer. Almost all of the known alleged victims were based in Texas.

He got in trouble for this before. And threatened therapists in lawsuits 1 and 2 about that very thing. And that's back in 2020. He continued his behavior unchanged for a full year, at least.

I think that sound completely ridiculous. I'm sorry but do you really think an NFL player not only does not know the difference between a massage therapist and hooker? And not only that..

A: Could make the mistake of confusing licensed massage therapists with hookers 25+ times.
B: Doesn't know where to find actual hookers
C: Thinks sexual assault is acceptable, sex worker or not.
D: At no point negotiated beforehand whatever weird shit he wanted and how much it would be.

There is absolutely no way he did not know what he was doing while he was doing it. The most likely explination is that he was specifically targeting women who were not sex workers because he got off on that in particular.
